Description

The myth of Icarus is a cautionary tale from Greek mythology that serves as a metaphor for the consequences of hubris, disobedience, and the dangers of overreaching one's limits. The story is often associated with the idea of "flying too close to the sun."

The myth of Icarus is most commonly told in the context of the labyrinth and the Minotaur. Daedalus, a skilled craftsman, and inventor, was imprisoned along with his son Icarus on the island of Crete by King Minos. Daedalus created wings for himself and Icarus, constructed from feathers and wax, so they could escape their imprisonment.

Before they took flight, Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, as the wax could melt and the wings could fall apart. Similarly, he cautioned against flying too close to the sea, as the feathers could become heavy with moisture and lose their buoyancy.

However, Icarus, overcome by the exhilaration of flying, ignored his father's warnings and soared higher and higher towards the sun. As a result, the wax melted, and the wings disintegrated, causing Icarus to fall into the sea and drown.
