Description
Software used: ApophysisThe title. Read Mira Grant's Newsflesh trilogy and you'll get it. Or not. It's a tribute to one of my favourite characters.
Aaand back to my comfort zone! Anyways, I borrowed katdesignstudio 's splits/elliptic flame to learn new coloring technique, cause her coloring style is like ALL OVER THE PLACE

Oh, man, which reminds me. I had this most unpleasant encounter with some fractal dude on facebook who was like super rude about people who use scripts in Apo. I should write a journal about it but ain't nobody got time for that! I just remembered it cause I used Tom's gradient and Tom has some awesome scripts in his gallery, too. So, I wanted to say fuck you, awful fractal dude, and anybody else who usurps the right to decide who is "true" fractal artist and who's not. Like we didn't have it hard enough back then in 2007ish when DA community was all over our asses cause "fractal art" ain't no "art" cause we all just mash random buttons and see what happens. Jesus, I am so angry, ugh! Point is, we gotta stick together! No arbitrary lines between "true" and "script" artists or other bullshit like that. Just make art and respect each other. Why is this so hard for some people?

This is totally awesome. However, if you are drifting through space and see this...run, jump to hyperspace, now.
I sometimes use scripts as a starting point. I also use randoms. Screw that fractal guy!

Thank you Yeah, screw him!
P.S. I've just read your signature "God is not Microsoft; therefor, the world does not need periodic rebooting." Do you know The Myth of the Eternal Return? According to that book "primitive" people actually used to reboot time (in modern terms). Each new years was treated as a reboot of sorts, time was restarted, past sins were forgotten and people started anew - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_…

In my book, art is that which requires skill, so it doesn't matter if you start with a script. Heck, I wrote a script for making awesome fractals in JWF but that doesn't take the "skill" out of it now that all I have to do is press a button to get started - I still had to make the script. It can take a good eye to pick a good script or somehow make a bad one work. *shrug* Not that I can't see Mr. fractal man's point - it all depends on your experience and how you perceive things are done. Frankly speaking, your fractals look nicer than mine even when you use scripts, so it's not like no skill is involved. Your gamma and color balancing makes for excellent renders. I could say I'm jealous, but I just need to practice and render more. o_O

I totally agree. I did use a few scripts in the past to learn some older styles, nowadays artists usually forbid creating scripts off their tutorials, so no scripts for me unless I deign to make one for personal use (ain't nobody got time for making scripts! ).
People can misuse scripts but then again, they can misuse parameters or tutorials in the same way (and by that I mean cases when people just change gradient and upload practically the same fractal with zero invention of their own). Me and "mr. fractal" got stock at the point where he argued that people can't learn anything from scripts because they have to be super-dumb to use scripts in the first place. This argument of his still baffles me. Yes, there may be people who just render whatever the scripts serves them or whatever comes out of the random batch, but very few people choose to do things this way. In most cases they eventually figure out how Apo works and start tweaking the flame. What I'm trying to say in too many words is that it's people's choice how they employ scripts in Apo (or JWF) - scripts may be useful shortcut even for skillful fractal artist such as yourself or beginners can learn from the scripted flame how to make certain style.
Also, thank you for your compliment But please, do not compare yourself to other artists, we all have our unique talents that can't be compared! Actually, in the first phase or rendering I totally scrwed up the gamma! It was way too bright like over-exposed photo *facepalm* - I should know better, right? I make plenty of mistakes even after 8 years of practice

Agreed.
And now that you mention that, it's interesting to note, too, that most people won't notice the artist's intended final product. They only get to see what the artist decides is "good enough" or at least presentable. And what's also kinda funny is that, since people prefer different things, sometimes what an artist gives to the audience may be more desired by the audience than what the artist actually intended, which makes critiquing a funny business. X)
That said, comparing myself is more of an aim. I see things I like, so I try to make something similar. What's ironic is that I don't usually end up with that. For example, I enjoyed thick colors by people like suicidebysafetypin, but I ended up having more ideas for nested curls and complex patterns and such. *shrug* But indeed, thank you for your kind words.

Yeah, that is true too. The whole dynamics between artist and the audience is very interesting. I felt gradual change over the years about things I find "good enough" to let the world see, it's actually kinda insane form of self-censore. We, artists, want to create things for ourselves, to express our emotions or depict some concepts but we have to think about the audience, too. How to convey our message so that people understand it... and decade if we actually care if the message will be understood etc.
As for the comparison, I can relate to that. It may be a great tool for us to learn new things and have some specific goal that we strive to achieve Just don't let the flip side of this get to you. I ended up in tears more than once because I simply couldn't achieve the desired style I liked.

True, true. On a related note, I was very much interested in the cool multi-eyes effect other artists were doing. While I can't copy their style, I figured out (by accident, lol) how to do the pattern. Maybe you know what it is already, but if not, here's my params for a start (next post):

Thank you for sharing this with
I think the colour scheme you chose for this is sublime, the gold and purple remind me of something royal. But with the slight oranges and greens, it feels like the colours could be of flowers. The petals look like braids, very beautiful.

Thank you! I don't personally use scripts that much anymore because there aren't any scripts for my favourite styles, but I do have some older artworks in my gallery that I made with aid of scripted parameters. I don't see much difference between learning style from tutorial, regular parameters or scripted parameters
