This is the Cossack Mamay (Козак Мамай). A folkloric figure of Slavic (more specifically Ukrainian/Central Ukrainian) mythology who represents the old warrior Kobzar or Bandurist (due the names of musical instruments he plays Kobza or Bandura) who represents an entity more like a guardian of the land, who was very popular during the Cossack period of the late 15th-18th century.
