Description Today marks the 30th anniversary of the original three Nicktoons, those being Doug, Rugrats, and Ren and Stimpy.
I was hoping to do more, but I decided on only including some of my favourites from the network.

As I mentioned in a status, if it weren’t for at least Rugrats and Ren and Stimpy, cartoons would be completely different.

 Why’s that?
first this one might be a no brainer but of course the original 3 were creator driven
i imagine without them creator driven shows would’ve come long later

If it weren’t for Ren and Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life would either have been very different or would never had happened, meaning that Stephen Hillenburg wouldn’t have met Tom Kenny, meaning that Spongebob wouldn’t have happened. Due to how many boundaries the show broke, Invader Zim also wouldn’t have been greenlit at Nickelodeon.

Rough Draft Studios, a Korean animation studio that’s used in just about every mainstream cartoon, got its start in Ren and Stimpy.

Also, if it weren’t for the original 3, Cartoon Network likely wouldn’t have started making original cartoons. Had they did start making original shows, either way, Flapjack and Samurai Jack wouldn’t have happened. On Flapjack’s end, this means we wouldn’t have Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, and Over the Garden Wall. Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator of Dexter’s Lab and Samurai Jack, hired a lot of ex-Ren and Stimpy people for Samurai Jack, so it likely would not have happened.

In 1997, a year after Ren and Stimpy was cancelled and 5 years after Nick fired John, he created a sort of spinoff (I’m saying spinoff because the main character was a recurring character on Ren and Stimpy) featuring one of his characters, George Liquor, called “The Goddamn George Liquor Program”. It was the first ever internet cartoon. Without it, we wouldn’t have internet animation as it is. I.e, Eddsworld, Tankmen, Madness Combat, BfDI, etc.

Ren and Stimpy alone was so groundbreaking that as much as I and many other hate John K., without him making it, we wouldn’t have modern animation in the state it’s in now.

(I might be spreading too much information, but I added Iroh because he is one of the only characters in fiction that made me cry, all because of Ba Sing Se. It was a legendary episode and the ending makes me cry no matter what.)

I do not own any of the characters, as they all belong to Nickelodeon/Viacom.
