Boy, I'm gonna tell you something straight, First: This is hard to do, placing torches would ruin the thing. Second: It's a great piece of work, I tried making something like that, hard. Thirdly: JUST TURN YOUR MONITOR UP. Problem, Solved.

Sand would have been a much better color for his skin, also you could have took the time to:
A) Get a mod which would negate shadows.
or
B) Lit up the dark areas with torches, or lightstone.
Just that the darkness makes him look evil..
