Description
The National Department of Corrections is the prison and jail service for the Carolina Confederacy, they operate in various ways some of which will be listed here. All aspiring Corrections Officers must take the Federal Corrections Course which lasts for 18 months and includes how to find contraband and how to handle prisoners in various levels as well as moderate medical training and how to deal with a barricaded suspect along with much other training that is classified.Once the aspiring officer has passed the training he is issued his uniform and handcuffs along with a radio and is supervised by a FTCO (Field Training Corrections Officer) for 6 months. In order for the officer to gain access to new equipment such as the pepperspray and/or taser they must go through the pepperspray/taser course which lasts two weeks and involves the officer being tased/peppersprayed.
This is the maximum level of equipment a NDoC officer can have until they reach the rank of Sergeant where they may attempt to get a pistol through the Pistol Qualification Exam (for Sergeants and higher) which is a two month course and involves a lot of training. The Sergeant may also choose to qualify for a shotgun course which involves the same training however the shotguns are loaded with less lethal and pepper shells.
For anything else like tear-gas grenades or the grenade rifle along with other stuff, there is much more training courses on that. Prison Officers in the CC are amongst the highest trained with very little lethal incidents per a year. (1 police shooting every 8 years or even less like 1 police shooting every 20 years depending on circumstances)
Officers can choose to go into various units that are there for them to take.
SRU - Suspect Recovery Unit - which involves normal officers and CERT officers trying to retain suspects who have broken out of jail and are on the run.
CERT - Correctional Emergency Response Team which is the SWAT team of the CC's correction department. They are armed with M4s and various other items not mentioned. They are called out not much but they are on standby everyday 24/7 with each prison/county jail having its own rotational (day and night team) 2 teams for each shift on call.
MRT - Mail Recovery Team is the team that investigates and reads all inmate letters.
UIT - Undercover Inmate Team is a team full of highly-trained officers who go undercover in various jails and prisons while infiltrating gangs and much more to find illegal drugs and weapons in jail. The UIT may work with MRT and CERT and possibly SRU.
