Description
Syria had been walking around trying to find her way out of the cave she seemed to have been stuck in. The cave had seemed to be a maze since it had been awhile since the fire. At least that’s what Syria had thought. She didn’t know when it was night or day, or even how long she had been trapped. Though the mare was exhausted. Not just because of her pregnancy, but because of other things as well like the lack of food and water, the musty air, and the darkness. There were times where she could barely make out the cave walls, but most of the time Syria couldn’t see a thing.Didn’t seem like long until she had bumped into a wall. The mare only paused as she stood there closing her eyes even though it didn’t make much of a difference. It didn’t take long for tears to start to come to her eyes as they soon ran down her cheeks while she quietly sobbed, “I need you Whiskey…I-I can’t be in here by myself for much longer..” she quietly spoke as she cried, “I never should have gone in here..I should have just tried to keep up..” she said as she had lowered her head.
Though Syria soon had opened her eyes once more, “Please….I need to find a way out of here…” she said before she looked around despite not being able to see much. Her coat was still thick with smoke, ash, and even some dirt from the cave. She was completely miserable and exhausted. Although Syria had winced slightly as she had gotten some sudden pain in her abdomen. It took her by enough surprise that she had abdomen, just not too hard to make the pain worse.
Syria just sighed as she gently nuzzled her side, “I know…just try to stay out until I can get us out of here..” she spoke softly before turning around slowly going back the way she came. Hopefully she could find another path that could lead her out of there. As always though, no luck. Syria felt like she was only going in circles. If only there was a way for her to tell if she had already been in an area before or not, but it was impossible due to the limited lighting.
After what could have been a few more hours, Syria still hadn’t made her way out of the cave. She wasn’t even sure if she was close or not. Though she was about to loose all the hope she had left in her exhausted body. Along with that, she started to get more pain from her abdomen. It didn’t take much longer for her to figure out she was going into labor, “No…can’t you wait just a little bit longer..?” she said almost desperate. Although this wasn’t her first foal, she never imagined she would be delivering the foal trapped inside of a cave alone. Even if there was someone else there with her would make things so much better.
Though Syria had tried to find somewhere that she felt comfortable enough to deliver the foal. Although she was in a cave, she knew there were some small patches of grass scattered about. It was just a matter of finding one to help provide at least some comfort. For once in a long while Syria had gotten some luck as she found a patch of grass that was suitable enough for her situation.
It didn’t take the mare long to lay down knowing her contractions were quickly getting worse by the minute. All she wanted was for this to be over. To be back home. For everything to be back to normal. Although things weren’t going to go back to normal. Little did she know that the herd had doubled in size since the day of the fire. What had even come of Whiskey and the colts? That was one of her many concerns, but right now Syria was mainly focused on the life she was bringing into the world despite her terrible situation.
Seemed like just like that her water had broke, and soon the pushing. Several long and exhausting hours had passed before it was all over. Though Syria had little to no energy left inside of her. At least until a small little whinny came from behind her giving her enough energy to sit up. Once she had, Syria had looked at the foal before her. A filly. A beautiful little filly. She seemed to have her father’s speckled muzzle and his roan. Syria just smiled even if it was a little as she had teared up again. She couldn’t even remember the last time she had smiled. Now she had hope again.
Though the filly was shaking a bit as she attempted getting up, but only managed to get closer to her mother allowing Syria to easily clean off her coat. “Welcome to the world little one..I promise I’ll get us out of here soon…” she said before nuzzling the filly. After that Syria spent a few minutes to rest before she had gotten back on her hooves. Once she had, Syria immediately started cleaning off the rest of the filly’s coat before gently nudging her to encourage the little thing to get up.
The filly wasn’t sure what was going on since she was unable to see anything, but when she had felt a nudge, the little thing had only tried to get up on her hooves. Her second attempt was much better than the first as she almost managed to stand. “Come on try again little one.” Syria has spoke softly before she helped the filly when needed as she was standing on her third attempt.
Only a few moments after that, and the filly had already started nursing as her small tail had flicked around while doing so. Syria just smiled again before she looked at the filly. Luckily this spot provided her with some light. Just enough to see her new daughter. “I think I’ll name you Canela…” Syria spoke as she nibbles on the filly’s mane before she looked around unsure of what to do now. At least Canela was safe since Syria hadn’t run into any critters. Though Syria soon had let out a sigh, “Hopefully you’ll get to meet your father and your step-brothers soon…”
