umm, well i an not entirely certain why the Akatsuki need to be sorted into Hogwarts houses but they did.
and i do know that Deidara does wear the Akatsuki hat thing but i just decided to ignore it.

There are more factors contributing to a Slytherin besides ambition. For example, Slytherins often portray rather cunning and self preserving qualities. Itachi must have hosted some of these personality traits if he were able to slaughter the entirety of his clan and escape the village unharmed. Although, I do agree that he was more of a Ravenclaw than a Slythein. As for Hidan, he definitely is a reckless Gryffindor, as you said. He exhibits too much low self control and flamboyant outbursts to be able to survive as a sly snake.
