Mikhail has lived a life which caused him to distrust others. However, his stay at Legacy Academy has made him learn to open up more. He maintains a careful and guarded disposition towards those who have yet to earn his trust, but he has been making great strides in forging strong relationships with those he considers friends. He still has a long way to go when working on his confidence but he now actively chooses to keep his opinions to himself and reserve his personal views until the appropriate time to voice them arises.
His curiosity hasn’t changed. Learning new things about the world and its physical and supernatural laws became one of his passions in life. He has developed a tendency to geek out when he successfully performs a spell or makes some accidental discover during his studies. He keeps a record of which spells work, and what sort of modifications he can make to change a spell's efficacy.
One of his more disliked qualities is his tendency to be careless in handling magical objects, spells, and generally in daily life. He cannot help but test things out on himself or tinker around with some device that he happens to find. This has lessened over time as he learned to keep a note of things more mindfully.
His traits have hardly changed over the years that he has been with LA, however making new friends and experiencing new adventures have made him trust others a little bit more.
Bio:
Mikhail is born to a Russian mage and a Philippine dream demon known locally as a bangungot. His father had saved her from her enslavement to a wealthy family from the Northern area of Luzon who used her as their personal assassin to eliminate any opposition to their power. The love that resulted from this rescue eventually culminated in his birth.
His childhood however, was not a happy one as shortly after he was born, his father left him and his mother without explanation which caused her to fall into a deep depression. She refused to eat or rest and even considered ending her and Mikhail’s life at one point, yet she persevered and strove to raise Mikhail the best she could on her own until she and Mikhail were taken in by a kindly friar who was to be ordained as a priest. Their luck seemed to be going up after all the hardship that they had to go through all their life, until one day when the friar discovered her true nature and attempted to exorcized her. Mikhail eliminated the friar with extreme prejudice despite his young age. Nobody else saw the friar until his mangled and eviscerated body was discovered a week later beneath a bridge near his house. Mikhail's mother fell into a coma where it is unknown if she would ever wake up from. Due to her nature as a dream demon, she was able to retreat into Mikhail's mind, but her physical body crumbled into ash and dust.
After the incident, Mikhail ran away from his village and was taken in at an orphanage. He was considered a troublemaker by many of the caretakers mainly due to complaints and accusations from the other children who ostracized and alienated him because he claimed to be able to see unseen things. These accusations always put him in trouble and made his stay in the orphanage miserable. He remembered the stories his mother used to tell him about his father. The way that she longingly talked about him instilled a desire in Mikhail to search for the man who had left his family behind. Over time Mikhail jumped from one orphanage to another learning specific skills such as pickpocketing, forgery, parkour, and deceit. At one point, he was able to trick a local bar into allowing him to work for them by convincing the manager that he was of age. When the deception was seen through, he was promptly kicked out and had to find other means to sustain himself once more.
Years passed. One fateful night, while he slept beneath a tree. Mikhail had a dream about an academy on an island across the sea. An invitation was given to him within the dream, and he awoke with the item already in his possession and decided to look for the island, without reading its contents first. He gathered his belongings and hastily put together a raft to sail out to sea. Eventually the magic of the invitation activated in the middle of his voyage and he was teleported within the vicinity of the island. The raft and most of his belongings were lost during the teleportation, but fortunately the sea currents led him to his destination. Finally he had arrived at Legacy Academy.
Attending The Academy:
Mikhail has been in Legacy Academy for 4 years. He has so far experienced switching bodies with another student, had his body taken over by a demonic entity, became a shady shopkeeper’s errand boy due to breaking some of his merchandise, and having another encounter with the previous demonic entity which culminated into the being being sealed within his arm in the form of a sword. These experiences have shaped Mikhail’s outlook to make him strive to do better for each mistake he’s made. He trains his body physically at least three times a week after the body switch situation in order to be more fit to cast spells and continues to diligently study the lessons that the academy provides to him.
Mikhail has begun to become closer friends with two of his schoolmates, namely Riley and Manon. He appreciates Riley for her directness and willingness to hang out with him and he looks up to her self-assured confidence. More recently, the two have begun dating after a night of passion between the two. He and Manon have recently gone through yet another adventure in the dreamscape, this time albeit with far more traumatic occurrences as he learns of his family history as well as receiving a little more information about his father. This renews his enthusiasm in searching for the missing man.
Ability Info
Species: Human - Bangungot Hybrid
A dream demon endemic to the Philippine islands. Originally tree-spirits or fae folk who live in trees. They become violent and aggressive when their home is cut down and used as timber for the construction of houses. These infamous creatures sit on their victim's chest or face to suffocate them and induce nightmares. Eventually when the victim is rendered helpless and paralyzed, the bangungot will devour their life force, essentially killing them in the process. Real-world explanations for these types of deaths were attributed to Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome and Sleep Paralysis. When the Spanish conquered the country they demonized all of the local mythical creatures through a ritualistic blessing held within a church that was erected in Cebu City through the power of God. After this ritual, all of the mythical creatures and spirits in the Philippines were reduced to mere demons as far as the church was concerned. They grew weak to influence of the Catholic faith and became cursed with a golden strand of hair that forces their loyalty to those who fashion a ring out of it and keep it in their possession.
Abilities:
Eyes of the Viy - Mikhail has been cursed with the ability to see things normally unseen by others. This vision has been constantly growing stronger in power as the demon's influence over his mind grows over the years. What started as simply an ability to see through illusions, minor glamour, and invisibility, has become the ability to determine the compositions and potential weaknesses of physical and nonphysical objects. These areas of instability appear to Mikhail as emerald green scars that run along the surface area of the target. These eyes also allow Mikhail to destroy most magically erected barriers with a concentrated glare.
Viy's Authority - Mikhail is able to draw upon the authority of his demon patron in order to enthrall monsters or lesser spirits to his will. He is able to make them perform actions on his behalf. He must grab his intended target's face with his demonic arm for at least 3 seconds. They become hypnotized by the gaze of the eye and become susceptible to all instruction and suggestions from Mikhail up until he breaks off the enthrallment or loses concentration. The authority works best when Mikhail puts all his focus into control, however he can manage up to 3 thralls at any given moment. Once broken the thrall loses all memories of the hypnosis.
Mikhail also cannot enthrall creatures or beings that are already in service to another being on equal or greater authority than Viy. Conditions as to what constitutes a lesser entity in order for Mikhail to enthrall are,
1. Must have less intelligence than Mikhail.
2. Must have less magical ability than Mikhail.
3. Must have less willpower than Mikhail.Analysis/Intuition - subset skills of Eyes of the Viy.
Analysis: Mikhail observes an object anywhere from a minute up to several hours, depending on its size and complexity. If completed successfully, this ability allows him to gain insight into the object and its composition. Repeated use of analysis on the same object shortens the amount of time required to complete the skill and grants Mikhail even more information.
Intuition: Mikhail pictures a scenario within his mind based on information immediately available to him. By recreating a mental image of everything within 10m radius, he can create simulated predictions of actions or occurrences that might take place in within the next 5 minutes. These predictions do not function as true precognition abilities as they are limited by the information available to Mikhail within the ability's area of effect. As such, surprise attacks, objects Mikhail has no prior knowledge of, and anything that would come from outside the area are not included and act as a blind spot. This ability improves the more Mikhail uses it.Spellcasting - Mikhail is able to cast a variety of different spells through different methods of spellcasting due to his high mana pool. He has excellent affinity with sleep spells, enchantments, illusions, and stealth magic. He struggles with learning and casting spells related to light, and is unable to learn any holy or divine spells.
He comes from a very long bloodline of warlocks that served a demon known as the Viy. He cannot learn the bloodline magic of other families or magic that is limited to certain races. Spells he currently knows how to use are:
Lullaby - A spell that enchants Mikhail's voice to lull anyone who hears it to sleep. The effectiveness of the spell depends on the time of day and the victim’s resistance to magical influence. Daytime effectiveness varies from 30 seconds to 1 minute for exhausted or drowsy targets, 5-8 minutes for average targets, and is completely nullified against insomniacs, energetic targets, and night owls. Night time effectiveness is 10-30 seconds, 1-3 minutes, and 5-8 minutes respectively. (Magic resistance is taken into account and the spell has a chance to fail if the target/targets actively resists its influence. The spell is completely ineffective against deaf individuals.)
Dread - A spell that requires Mikhail to maintain eye contact with an intended target. It shortens a victim’s visual range down to 1m and torments them with dreadful hallucinations and a feeling of imminent doom. The spell has no time limit, provided eye contact and concentration is maintained throughout the duration. (Magic resistance is taken into account and the spell has a chance to fail if the target/targets actively resists its influence. The spell is less effective against courageous individuals and completely ineffective against fearless individuals.)
Mirror Image - A spell that constructs a magical replica of an object Mikhail has previously cast analysis upon. Mikhail draws mana from within his body to recreate the exact physical characteristics of a target at the time of casting. The duplicate has less durability than the original due to being a magical construct and can be dispelled if it takes enough damage. Mikhail can also detonate mirror images manually, causing them to explode and spread magical shrapnel in a radius of 5m. The shards disappear after 1min. In the case of "living" replicas. They do not have any inherent will and must be given very specific instructions on what actions to perform. One exception to this rule are duplicates Mikhail creates of himself, which serve as extensions of his own body. These duplicates can share information with each other and Mikhail himself, however this includes pain and injury once they return to him. Mikhail can also detonate mirror images of himself, but prefers not to due to the pain of explosion being reflected on himself.
Illusion - A spell that allows Mikhail to deceive a target's vision with hypnotic suggestions. The spell is cast through direct eye contact, but does not require it to maintain. Once active, Mikhail can deceive his target and distort their senses with fake simulations up to 10m radius from the target's position. The area of effect moves along with the target and can last up to 5min unless an outside influence breaks the spell early. The spell can be broken by counter-spells and by shaking or bumping the victim to snap them back to reality.
Elemental Spells - Mikhail can cast a plethora of spells related to the five natural elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Void). These spells consume mana upon casting and have varying degrees of effectiveness depending on how much mana he consumes to cast them. He can also inscribe the spells into an item such as a piece of paper or a popsicle stick for a one-time instantaneous cast of the inscribed spell by breaking the object to release the mana placed within. The process of spell inscription can take up to an hour and cannot be used for potent spells.
Territory Manifestation - Boundless Sea of Nightmares - A spell that Mikhail has been developing after classes. After a brief incantation, he manifests a bounded area within a 100m radius from himself. The spell temporarily brings Mikhail's dreamscape into reality trapping himself and anyone within the area of effect. Many eyes open and encircle the sky, the ground becomes a dark purple desert which Mikhail can manipulate and shape into spikes, nightmarish creatures, or weaponry to use as an attack. The eyes that appear due to this spell become conduits for Mikhail to cast abilities that require the use of eye contact. The spell requires a lot of mana to cast and has a hard limit of 5min before it ends. The spell can also be broken by a strong enough counter-spell or by forcing Mikhail to leave the boundary which is marked by green flame. Once it ends, Mikhail's body exhausts most of its magical and physical energy and he must rest for a week before he's able to use it again.
Dream Demon Physiology - Mikhail's physiology as a dream demon grant him enhanced abilities at night, varying in effectiveness depending on the phases of the moon. Generally his physical capabilities are multiplied by a specific percentage. (New Moon 2x Crescent Moon: 1.5x Half Moon: 0.5x Quarter Moon: 0.25x).
Specific Dream demon abilities include:
Dream Walking - Mikhail can travel into another person’s dreams by sleeping on them. This ability lasts up to 15 mins and requires a full 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep afterward before he can do it again. In order to return from someone else’s dream, he has to concentrate for a minute.
Dream Eating - Mikhail can eat a sleeping person’s dreams whether within the dream or outside of it. Within the dream, he can simply pick it apart and eat it as he pleases as if the dream were made of cotton candy. When outside, he can draw the dream out from the dreamer’s mouth, which grows out of an ephemeral plant when he applies pressure on their chest. The dream that grows from this plant takes the form of a fruit. The type of dream changes its flavor. Good dreams are sweet, nightmares are savory, prophetic dreams are sour, and lewd dreams are spicy.
Dream Manipulation - Mikhail can manipulate dreams to his own liking and is limited only by his imagination. He can tailor-fit a dream to their liking by rearranging dream matter which, for him, is similar to sand.
Weaknesses:
Sunlight - Mikhail has a natural weakness to sunlight because he is a half dream demon. He begins to feel discomfort when staying under the sun. Prolonged exposure begins to develop into rashes, eventually petrifying him if he does not get cover.
Divine Vulnerability - Mikhail is vulnerable to sacred relics, pure divine beings, consecrated ground, and words of faith as recognized by Catholic church. He begins to experience varying degrees and symptoms of burning depending on his exposure to these holy elements.
Human Limitations - Despite training his body often during his stay in Legacy Academy, which has slightly improved his overall strength and stamina. His body is still vulnerable to most diseases, ailments, afflictions, and injuries that would affect an ordinary person. Even if his demon biology help him recover, he cannot completely repair damage from lethal damages. Seeing through more powerful illusions such as those from ancient beings and powerful mages appear to him as a blur and make him faint upon seeing them as a failsafe to keep his mind from going insane.
Information Dependence - If an object Mikhail analyzes has any materials or methods of creation within it that are unknown to him, the analysis will fail and Mikhail has to learn about the mystery component before he can attempt the skill again.
Paranoia - Mikhail’s paranoid tendencies have caused most of his relationships with others. An enemy can make use of his misplaced fears to turn him against his own friends and even make him doubt his own abilities.
Psychic Vulnerability - Mikhail’s demonic-half is vulnerable to attacks from proficient psychic users especially when he is inside someone’s dreams. His human-half is not trained to defend against mind-reading and brainwashing.
Mana Dependence - Mikhail's mana while plentiful, is not infinite. Every spell he casts comes at a cost of either his mana or physical energy. He must stop to recover any time he reaches a critical level and is unable to cast any more spells during this down time.
Overheat - Mikhail's ability to cast magic, depend heavily on his mind's connection to his body through a secondary nervous system which allows his mana to travel across his body. Each time he casts a spell, he has to take a few minutes before casting another, as casting multiple spells in quick succession can cause him to burn out and exhaust himself quickly.
Sight - A lot of Mikhail's spells and abilities require direct eye contact to cast and/or maintain. Any obstructions that would break his line of sight can effectively dispel a majority of his techniques. This also includes if his targets were to close or cover their own eyes to avoid his influence.
Mental Corruption - While the influence of his demon patron has been significantly weakened since they've been sealed into a sword that Mikhail can summon at will, use of the weapon wears down on Mikhail's mental state. Over reliance on the weapon or the Viy's Authority may allow the Viy to temporarily take possession of his body for brief periods. Over time, the Viy has been able to corrupt his left arm where Mikhail can summon it at will, but the corruption kept at bay through magic rituals and a binding wrap.
Dream Limitations - Attempting to change too many details within someone else's dream setting can give Mikhail nausea and debilitating headaches. (A lucid dreamer and can effectively resist his dream manipulations and even use it against him.) If he is not careful, he can be trapped in the person’s dream if his body was removed during sleep. He can also be kept in or kicked out by a dreamer with great mental strength. One trick that allows a person to remove him from the dream is wiggling one’s fingers or toes.
Dream Eating Withdrawal - Mikhail can not eat more dreams than he can digest doing so could give him an almost vampiric hunger for them. Effectively turning him into a mindless monster.

Enchanted Sketchbook - A sketchbook that has been enchanted to have limitless pages.
Smartphone - A low-end device. It can call, text, and have access to wifi, but only has about 3gb of RAM and 32gb memory.
Viy Saber - A cursed weapon that Mikhail obtained after his recent dream adventure with Manon. It is a fragment of the Viy that used to reside within his soul that was bound into semi-tangible spirit form by a spell created by his father to protect him from its influence. It comes with most of the abilities that Mikhail already has inherent from his connection to the Viy, albeit to greater effect.

Nikolai Vasilyevich Dostoyevsky - Mikhail’s father, a Russian warlock. He travels the world as part of his curse to sire a new host for their patron demon, the Viy. He met Mikhail’s mother in the Philippines during his travels there, but had to leave as soon as Mikhail was born because he could not let himself grow attached to the boy given what fate would await Mikhail if he stayed. His affinity for magic falls under the summoning category and he has established himself as a powerful summoner. He is able to summon up to 7 different familiars at once. Mikhail knows very little about him personally, but is trying to search for him.
Malaya - Mikhail’s mother, a Bangungot (Philippine nightmare demon). She was once the enslaved familiar of a wealthy family from the northern region of Luzon. Her masters would use her to eliminate any opposition to their power. She met with Nikolai at some point in her young adult years and was freed by him from her corrupt masters. She enjoyed much of her freedom and eventually fell in love with the man who saved her and gave birth to his son. Although his sudden disappearance caused her great grief and pain, she held strong for Mikhail. At one point she was courted by a priest-in-training who, upon learning of her true identity, attempted to exorcise her. Mikhail murdered the friar as vengeance for his betrayal, but Malaya protected his mind from guilt by using a spell to suppress his memories just before her physical body “died.” Her dream demon form exists within Mikhail’s mindscape in an inert state.
Friends:
Noelle Manon Bourgeois - Mikhail met her one day at the academy while he was out exploring. She showed her kindness without asking for anything in return and has even given him some new drawing tools to work with. Overall Mikhail enjoys her company a lot and feels a great debt to her for all the favors she's done. She has recently helped partially sever the connection between Mikhail and the Viy, something the demon resents her for. Mikhail, however, is once again grateful for this favor.
Sean Mason - Mikhail's former roommate. He caught Mikhail's interest when they met and Mikhail wanted to learn a lot more from him until he had to eventually work at a library instead of staying as a student. Mikhail regularly visits him to tell him updates about the academy or just generally hang out.
Sidney Azaketor Graybeard - Mikhail's current roommate. A student who creates many different magical tools. Mikhail takes genuine interest in Sidney's projects and is willing to help him test them out.
Haruko Hayashida - Mikhail met Haruko when he was practicing life studies over at the Beehive. He is curious about the fact that Haruko had the power of a nine tailed fox when she only has one tail. They got off on the wrong foot at first but Mikhail's curious tendencies make him want to learn more about her.
Oswald - One of the first students Mikhail has met in the academy. Mikhail considers him as a source of information about the academy, but wishes to hang out normally with him at least once. Mikhail can see Oswald as he truly appears rather than the form he appears to be. Mikhail looks up to Oswald as a senior in the affairs of fear-related magic.
Celestine Gastrell - Mikhail met the dragoness while he was body swapped with Irigan. He appreciates her genuineness and kind attitude towards him and is excited to hang out a lot more if the opportunity presents itself.
Kaia Wolff - Mikhail met her one day while he awaited his punishment for the body swap situation. The hellhound girl accompanied him for a while to the school clinic. Mikhail is interested in learning more about her.
Uai'Nina Laili Ao'Ako - Mikhail met her when he had to go back to the music room to retrieve his sketchbook. They jammed for a while and made some conversation. Mikhail wishes to learn more about her.
Rilynn Deloros - Mikhail met with the mermaid girl after class one day when she asked to borrow his notes for class. She seems interested to get to know him more. Mikhail seems interested in learning more about her as well. He’s so far been developing a small crush on her as they hang out more and more. Recently, they have began dating due to their mutual interest in each other.
Ayano Fujimori - A new acquaintance of Mikhail. They have a mutual interest in photograpy.
Rivals:
Irigan Amanita - Mikhail is on very bad terms with this student as he had accidentally swapped bodies with him due to a botched spell. Irigan shares the same frustrations towards Mikhail as he was not able to find a solution to their predicament effectively. Once their body swap situation has been resolved, the two seem to have developed a begrudging respect for one another. Mikhail became determined to best Irigan in another magic duel in the future.
Quentin Schiaffino - Mikhail has fought Quentin for the position of goalie during one of their class activities. Unknown to Quentin, Mikhail has also insulted him while the latter was still within Irigan's body. Mikhail does not have any concrete feelings about Quentin but would rather avoid him if possible.
Sebastian Brooks - Mikhail came across him one time while under the effects of Marmon’s charms. It does not go well at all and he ends up making a bad impression towards the vampire. He does, however, have a begrudging admiration for Sebastian’s self-assuredness and confidence, much like his current feelings for Riley.

Human Form - A 5'7" Filipino teen with messy dark-brown hair that is cut asymmetrically to the right side and emerald green eyes. One of them is now brown due to the events of the last dreamscape adventure with Manon, but he maintains an illusion over it to keep its green color. Usually seen in really big jackets, pants, and shoes. A visible zig-zagged scar can be seen on his neck.
Nightmare Form - Mikhail's form as a nightmare demon. He appears as a centaur-like creature, with the rear end fading into an imitation of the night sky. He has long silver hair that reaches down to his front leg's ankles. His eyes become yellow with darkened sclerae. His right arm is stretched out with claws instead of fingers while his left arm is simply a stump due to the Viy taking residence within it in his human form. His hooves glow with a dark purple flame.

He rarely had any friends growing up but had some luck with some of his orphanages having music programs which allowed him to occupy his time with practicing instruments. He is good at string and wind instruments in particular, but dislikes standing out when performing and prefers to play for a small group or just himself.
He once faked his identity at age 16 to be able to work as a bartender. He was promptly kicked out 6 months later after the manager learned of his deceit. It was during this time that he learned how to cook good meals and mix alcohol.

Most, if not all of his clothes are hand me downs and donations that he's collected during his time in the orphanage. He has a habit of claiming unclaimed items from lost and found areas and modifies them to his tastes in order to save money.

He is possessed by a demon known as the Viy that can be summoned by anyone who wishes to speak with it. Its only known powers are authority over demons and the true sight it curses Mikhail with. The one inside Mikhail is merely a fragment of its soul, which is still currently bound to a stone statue somewhere in Russia from Mikhail’s world. In spite of its status as a prisoner, it still seems to hold some power and provide riches as bribes. The soul fragment is currently bound into a physical form of a sword that Mikhail can bring out from the formerly magical scar area of his neck.
He’s currently cursed into a pain bond with Marmon Daemn. As of recent events, this bond has been broken.
He’s currently influenced by contact with Marmon, which made his libido spike. As of recent events, this effect has mellowed down into occasional spikes.
