Description
In my fanfic Dogs of War, InuYasha is captured by an evil dog youkai named Akumuizumi. She has a Priest turn IY's mind inward and they try to drive him mad with his own thoughts and memories. The whole sequence involves both physical and mental torture and it was rather creepy to write. I had never written anything so dark and nightmarish before, but in doing so, I can also push IY far out onto the edge of his demon nature and hold him there. This part is not the whole story by any means, but just one facet of the greater conflict involving other characters.A writer friend of mine once told me that you have to be willing to hurt your protagonists in order to have a good story. I wonder if he'd approve of the lengths I've gone to?

Ok. The next thing you need to tell me is what operating system you're using. If you're using Vista, you may have to go to the Wacom website and download the latest drivers. If it's WinXP, then we can continue to poke at it until we figure out why it's not seeing the tablet. We may have to install the drivers through another avenue.
Have you tried connecting the tablet? (I'm assuming it's USB) Do you have more than one USB port? Try a different one if you do. Make sure the plug is in correctly and not bent or messed up internally. Also, have you tried other devices in your USB port to ensure it's working properly? A flash drive is especially good for this. If you can read a flash drive, then your port is OK.
I'll stop here and let you try the above. Let me know how it goes. If you still can't see the tablet, then we'll work on getting the drivers straightened up. Have patience. We should be able to get this sorted.

Sorry for the long delay in reply! I've got a convention coming up and I'm hitting the projects really hard!
Something that often happens with cds is that one player will see the disc just fine and yet, another cd player will not be able to read it at all. This can sometimes be due to a pinhole in the disc media (not your fault), a marginal sector in the disc (manufacturer's defect), or a fine, hairline scratch or blurring on the disc (even a fingerprint) that makes the directory undreadable. Using a disc cleaner/polisher is sometimes good to correct this. You can also wash the disc yourself. Put it under running water and use a tiny amount of dish soap. Rub the soap between your fingers to dissolve it and then lightly swipe the disc with your fingers under running water. The key here is to not rub hard at all. All you want to do is loosen anything (finger oils, dust, etc) from the surface and swish it away with the water. Soap breaks the surface tension of water and it helps break up oils, thus making the bath easier. When you've done rinsing the disc thoroughly, then wave it in the air to shake off most of the water. You can use a hair dryer, but ONLY ON COLD AIR! When the disc is dry, you can try it in your drive again.
I have a couple of marginal SONY install disks that I have to do this sort of thing with. Sometimes I can read them, and sometimes not.
If all this doesn't work, one thing you can do is write to WACOM and let them know that your disk is unreadable. As long as your model is still current, they will usually replace a disk inexpensively.
One other thing, Corel Painter is not a small program. Is the version you are supposed to have access to a "lite" version or something?
Outside of having some issues with your cd drive itself, (I assume you don't), these suggestions might give you some ideas to try.
Here's a link to the WACOM customer support:

Heh. Thanks for your comment, but I have to disappoint you. If you've read something before, I didn't write it. You must have read something *like* Dogs of War, because I've not released any of it beyond what's here on my Deviant Art site. In fact, I'm in the midst of a rewrite on an early scene involving elderly Miroku and a gaggle of children at the moment. The torture scene is later in the storyline and will be rewritten again to fit better. -MLS
