Sadly most equine artists fail with hooves. You can see beautifully drawn horses with totally unrealistic and lame hooves quite often. I don't understand why so many overlook this small but very important detail.
Our horses here are all trimmed by a pupil of Strasser. We see how it works naturally in practice, and how it improved the general health and happiness of our horses, so in drawing I stick to this as well.

Artists usually use photos from internet as refs, and they think that horses on that photos are healthy. Usually it's photos of sport horses with diseased hooves with horseshoes. And you can see the result...
And in another case, artists try to use anatomy textbooks for artists, but they don't know that there are bad textbooks. I find mistakes in modern textbooks very often O_o It's sad (
Yeah, I really read extract from Strasser books and some veterinary books only to know how to draw hooves XD Now I know how to look after horse hooves in theory XD

Yeah... since 99 percent of so called equine "professionals" have no idea about equine health (which explains why the expected lifespan of horses kept by humans is actually DECREASING with the "development" of modern day horse keeping) so of course artists will hardly see a healthy horse.
I have the "The anatomy of the horse for artists" by András Szunyoghy, which is the greatest such book ever published (and even correct in details most books are not, or missing) and still that has usual, unhealthy hooves on most pictures.

Most of people think, they can buy any pet withut knowledge, how to look after them. Unfortunately it can end very sad ( As a result you can see horses with unhealthy hooves, hysterical dogs, fat cats...

And here is an example of how dumb the world is: France just made a law, that ONLY members of the farrier association (guys who have no clue about hoof anatomy, and put the metal shoes on) and vets are allowed to trim and treat hooves. This means, proper, natural hoofcare is now technically illegal in France! Seriously... if I didn't hear it from a trusted source, I would have said this cannot be true...

Thanks, just what I've been looking for!
This is the most amazing combination of scientific and anathomical knowledge and an unbelievably beautiful and realistic drawing style!
Hats off!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! It's the only one I found that had such great detail and multiple angles! So many are just from the side! If you make another one, I'd like to learn more about leg structure.
