Description
James was really starting to hate the thought of growing up. It wasn’t the actual growing up part that was so bad—since growing up did have a certain number of perks, after all—no, what James hated were all the goodbyes that growing up resulted in.It was Teddy’s seventh year at Hogwarts—the last time they’d both be at school together. Now, in just a few short months, Teddy would be going off somewhere else and James would be left behind. Again.
James was getting very, very tired of being left behind.
He caught Teddy after dinner one cool summer night, just a handful of days before they would both be heading up to school again. Teddy went still when James snuck up behind him and wrapped his arms around his waist, not putting up any resistance even as James jumped a bit and tried to scrabble up onto his back, the same way he’d always done when he was a little kid.
"Please don’t grow up, Teddy…" he whispered, feeling horribly foolish. "Okay?"
He could hear the gentle smile in Teddy’s tone. "You won’t lose me, James."
"Promise?" He squeezed his eyes shut.
Teddy nodded, reassuringly. "Promise."
