Description
Where does it all begin? All remote solitude, all recluse distances bidding dusk farewell,
it follows thought's landscape far and wide,
scatters out and drifts thinning mist away.
Glimpsed in the still night of autumn wilds,
a lone mountain monk wanders back home.
- Wei Ying-wu (737-792 CE)
There was something soothing about sitting on the sun-warmed rocks, camera positioned and focused, and cable release in hand
Update: redid the colors and bumped the color temperature, more satisfied with it now
Nikon D200

Really sweet shot... your colors and composition are superb [especially the foreground grasses which really set this photo off]!!!!
[Wish we could see a larger view].

I really like this shot, I've wanted to one like this for a while (with grasses in the foreground) but the sunsets were always so boring

Well... this one certainly works. We made basically the same trip as you out west... what a fascinating part of the country!!!

Yep, I see from the photos in your gallery you visited some great places. I live in the boring midwest, not much in the way of inspiring natural scenery here

I grew up in Des Moines and had a career in Chicago before heading to Wisconsin. I spent my summers as a kid in southern Iowa and many of my friends lived on farms... looked like a tough life to a "city slicker" kid from Des Moines!!!

I'm also from Chicagoland, not much in the way of nature photography there. Someday I hope to camp / hike in northern Wisc

We just came back from a two day trip to Marinette County... in the upper right corner of the state. They have a waterfall tour and this was our third trip in 13 months. Truly spectacular!!! We stayed in a cabin on the Peshtigo River [a major white water rafting spot in the spring] and got up before sunrise to walk the twenty or thirty steps to the river. One of my favorite places in the world!!!!

Oh my goodness, this took my breath away. This is beautiful. I love how reflective the water is and color and the surreality of this shot

I love the perspective and how vast the distance to the horizon appears, it's great.
