Janie is the daughter of Maggie's housemaid, actually. They often hang out at her house while her mother is working, although they don't go to the same school due to segregation. They are pretty close. When Janie finds out about Maggie's band, she immediately wants to join. Apparently she loves to play guitar (albeit not well at first) but soon becomes a TOTAL AXE GODDESS... but she has to be careful being on stage because of her race. Very sad.
Janie is the most lighthearted of the group, supplying everyone with optimism. She doesn't understand racism (she's a tad dense) and is kind and open to everyone regardless of color, but that leaves her vulnerable to mean spirited people, so her friends are usually there for her to protect her from their snobby white supremacist jerk peers
