Description A bad decision is made by Riverclan.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The first thing Hawkcry was aware of when he woke up was an unrecognizable sound of screeching, followed quickly by the caterwauls of his clanmates all around him. Fear pricked deep into his heart, causing the warrior to jump immediately to his paws, fur bushed out in a brief panic. He fought to keep himself calm, even as the twolegs came into view- too many of them, reaching aggressively for his clanmates, trying to hurt them. They would come for him soon. Self preservation kicked in, and Hawkcry darted rapidly away from the nest of straw he had made, making a beeline directly for the exit they had entered from.

Before he could get more than a few pawsteps outside of the stall, however, he felt a jerk from behind as his scruff was grasped roughly by a foreign feeling. He was being... scruffed? By a twoleg?! Indignation almost won over his fear, and he began to twist rapidly, hissing repeatedly in an attempt to scare off the twoleg. When that didn't work, he writhed his body around, sinking his fangs deep into the arm that held him at a distance. He tasted blood in his mouth, the satisfying tang sending a jolt of smug gladness running through him. The stinking creature dropped him with a yowl, and he hit the ground hard. It was hard enough to wind him. Stars swam in his vision as he tried to regain composure.

The cries of Riverclan filled his ears, momentarily disorienting him. Which was was out? Where had they come in? Instinct pumped his heart and he simply ran, towards the general direction he remembered entering from. His sprint was abruptly interrupted by a head-first collision with a twoleg. "Stars be damned!" Hawkcry hissed loudly, stumbling around the distracted creature. Just beyond it, the exit! Lungs burning within his chest, the young tom darted out through the exit, not slowing down. Was it unfair of him to abandon his clanmates? What would Cloverstar think? No. He had to protect himself- he was being attacked by those revolting twolegs. He could have been killed if he hadn't escaped!

Hawkcry only stopped running when the feeling of wood, of dirt, finally dissolved into the soft grass of the field underneath his paws. He heaved out his breaths, eyes darting wildly around; who else had made it out? Did anyone get trapped in there? He could see Cloverstar, and Morningsun- Silverstone seemed safe too. Other cats were still fleeing from the barn. It made him feel... uneasy. How close had they been to death? Why hadn't Cloverstar listened to him? It was so clearly dangerous to stay in the open stall, something Hawkcry even mentioned to Cloverstar himself. Of course, as usual, Morningsun was the only cat he deigned to go to for validation. Hot fury burned like fire within the Riverclan warrior, bubbling up inside him like a volcano reaching it's erupting point.

Cloverstar would pay someday for his foolish naivety, and Hawkcry would be there to watch the lava pour down on him.
