Description
A wonderful commission done by the talented Siansaar, who has created this fantastic picture of a changeling family on a nice stroll through their capital city of Bugarest, The Changeling Kingdom. The husband is of course a member of the Changeling Royal Guard in service of His Majesty, Queen Chrysalis Roachanov. He and his wife have one lovely daughter and his wife is bearing three more precious little eggies to expand their loving family. Here, the Changeling Kingdom and its culture are based off old Eastern Europe such as Romania, Bulgaria and Russia. If you want to read some of my changeling stories (ironically which are more Imperial Japanese based), check them out on Fimnfiction.

P.s. The reason the wife is larger than her husband, for all those confused, is because I picture changeling mares as commonly being a lot larger, stronger and smarter than their stallion counterparts, which is a common aspect in insect biology.

Well, yeah, even if you take the comics as canon or even just semi-canon, they were indeed shown to have completely individual personalities.
Yeah, I've looked at that before. It's pretty okay, although... well, if I have to be a tad blunt, I'm really, really done with the whole "changelings being the poor, persecuted victims of ignorant, fascist ponies/non-changelings." It's not that I find it totally logically improbable or that there's anything fundamentally wrong, and I'm in no way having a go at you about this, it's just... ugh, it's just been done. And by that, I mean to death. You could make an entire genre around it.
Although, there are some arguments I could make against it in terms of the logical bases. One is that, when you think about it, what does a changeling have to fear from a pony? Changelings are tough SOBs, a proud warrior race who invade and pillage lands like the Huns; I just find it hard to picture them as the constant snivelling, crybaby woobie victims a lot of fics portay them as (not to say the fic you're talking about does, I mean more in general), especially when faced with creatures that really... just don't fit the bill of the "oppressor". Why? Because, to be frank, ponies are cowards. Here, I think Fervidor from fimfiction explains it better.
My biggest beef is how people tend to ignore the fact that most ponies simply don't seem to react to threats quite the same way humans do.
If we look at Bridle Gossip, the episode that deals specifically with prejudice, how do all the ponies in Ponyville react to Zecora? Do they try to run her out of town? Do they go: "We don't want your kind here!", form an angry mob, etc?
No. They run and hide. They barricade themselves in their homes the moment she shows up, and then they simply wait for her to leave. They didn't know anything about her because they literally never confronted her at all. And Pinkie's overactive imagination aside, they didn't react like that because they thought she was dangerous - most of them hid from her just because they thought she looked kinda weird and talked funny. That's a whole damn town going into complete shut-down just because one stranger showed up. Even a very aggressive pony like Rainbow Dash felt it was best to just lay low for a while.
In other words, when the ponies are confronted with an "outsider", something intimidating that they don't understand, their collective instinct seems to be to avoid it at all cost. Which kinda makes sense, because they're herbivorious herd animals and running away is how herd animals deal with threats. They can go on the offensive, sure, but usually only when directly provoked - Applejack would only confront Zecora when she thought Apple Bloom was in immediate danger.
This makes them notacibly different from us humans, who tend to be much more aggressive and territorial. When confronted with someone we consider an "outsider" to our "tribe". our first instinct tends to be to either drive the outsiders away from our territory, or plain destroy them.
So basically, even though ponies can be just as prejudiced as humans, they would express their prejudice in the form of avoidance rather than persecution.
And then there's the whole, "Do changelings need love to survive" debate and honestly, I think that just depends on your own individual interpretation. For me, I think it's more of a power source for their spells.

Well, Ponies did evolve from herd-dwelling herbivores rather than social hunter-gatherers. I suppose the "avoidance rather than persecution" thing and the general cowardice of the average Equestrian when faced with the unknown or "other-ly" is a result of the vastly different psychology Ponies have developed compared to humans due to said differences in evolutionary ancestry. Herd mentality also serves as a damn good reason why Ponies value friendship and unity so much.
Speaking of herds and proud warrior races, I've always felt that Centaurs of the Ponyverse (not Tirek, pretty sure that guy is just a demon) would have a culture similar to the historical Mongols or Huns. It makes sense to me, what with how the original Centaur myths may have originated from pre-historical European tribes seeing people on horseback for the first time, how the Mongol hordes lived and fought primarily on horseback, and how mythological centaurs (with the sole exception of Chiron, the trainer or heroes) were described as rowdy, violent, extremely troublesome, and kinda rape-y.
Hm... Love as magic fuel? I suppose it's possible. Maybe Changelings only need the raw magical power of strong emotions (love, hatred, joy, sorrow, rage, terror, etc.) to fuel their shape-shifting abilities, meaning that they're perfectly capable of surviving on just normal food if they had only their biological functions to worry about (assuming that Changelings are indeed a biological race).
And on the subject of Changelings, here's another interesting cultural thing from that universe's setting: due to how difficult it is to remove trees in the Hoofrican jungles, a Changeling's personal wealth is indicated not by the size of their house but by the size of their yard. Of course, no yard is greater than the Emperor's private garden, though you're pretty much a dead being if you step in his prized Foxgloves (Emperor Carapace has been alive for 1200+ years and maintaining his garden is basically the only thing that staves off the Immortality Madness).

This is the kind of changeling society I like to see. Some originality and individuality in them is nice. I've been interested in your representation of them ever since I've read your fics.

My personal headcanon has changeling culture akin to Ancient Egypt. A race of master builders and architectural geniuses.

That's the kind of mentality on them I don't really concur with. Although I don't mind it when it can be written "right" and when the tone calls for it, I don't often find them interesting enough that way. But to each their own and I won't argue if someone decides to portray them differently than the associated norm.

*shrugs* I'm fine with that. They'll just blitzkrieg their way into the Dog territory and ruthlessly crush their mutt enemies under the force of their Queen's titanic rump. I mean, these Are Diamond Dogs we're talking about, a bunch of mangy, inbred, flea-bitten mongrels against the Changelings, one of the MLP universe's few fully militarised and warrior societies. It's gonna be a blood bath, and the majority of it is Not going to green.
The father will most likely not be involved in it, given he is Royal Guard and will most likely have to stay back and protect his Queen... Which could possibly irritate him by making him think he's not being used to his full potential. Hmmm, there's a story in there somewhere...
Regardless, the changeling army will most likely return with plenty of orphaned pups to feed the newborn hatchlings.

I love the Changeling Peasants.
For the Changeling Peasants eyes I picture them having some type of goggles or shades on to protect their eyes from injury in battle and to give them that bug look.
I also picture hundreds of thousands of them being used in Equestira's massive highway and dam construction projects after a peace deal is reached between the Equestrians and Changelings.
