(_MA_D.) GW2 Divas Art Series: Revenant - Closer to the StarsModel: Spirit Light Weapon (This character belongs to Seer99 )
Location: Dredgehaunt Cliffs
Equipment: Crystal Arbiter Outfit, Astralaria, Timekeeper Sword.
The youngest of three sisters, Sa'Rai goes under the moniker of Spirit Light Weapon. She is a powerful Revenant, able to channel the power of past Legendary beings such as the dragon Glint, the Demon Lord Mallyx and the assassin Shiro Tagachi, into the world to aid and fight. Like her older sisters, she is a follower of Dwayna, protecting and helping those in need while keeping the tides of darkness at bay. With the help of her older sister, Jasmine, they found and rescued their oldest sister, whom they thought was dead. Together, Sa'Rai and Jasmine journey throughout Tyria, exploring the world and discovering new places and people.
And here we go, first piece in my new Guild Wars 2 divas series. This series is based on the same idea I had for my gw1 divas series, 6 or 7 years ago. Paint one female character for each of gw2 professions (and no, this isn't human only series). I hope you guys like it, more to come very soon

I think you've got a really good thing going here and that you can really make some amazing stuff in the very near future. You have a good eye for color and and motion and I can see possibilities for strong narrative work beyond cool poses. Always love seeing GW2 stuff, though!

Since it's a digital collage, correct anatomy and proportions is probably your biggest weakness. The hands are really holding this piece back. Her left hand would be about 50% bigger since it's so close to the viewer, and although it's covered in astral glitter, it looks like it's not in a grasping position. Her right hand looks like it's literally a left hand: From the viewer's PoV the fingers should be on the left side of the thumb to make the angle of the sword make sense. Her right shoulder also seems too far back and too low for the angle her hips are twisting her pose. Another thing you can look at is defining your intended lighting. She's mostly lit from the left, Astralaria is lit from the top right, and there's a big luminescent moon taking up 1/4 of the piece behind everything and it's light isn't affecting anything.

Do you use pictures for clothes and then blend them in? (saw it being used by many artists, never works with me ~ )

Overall? I don't know. In this video they used straight forward painting, and explaining the use of masks, blending options, things like that.
For example, for her pants here, Ive painted them, used new layer to add more folds with layer mode multiply on, on a new one Ive used textured brush (layer mode Linear dodge) to define shapes better. Sometimes textured brushes doesnt work, so I use textures from photos, really low opacity and or/fill, mode set to either overlay, soft light or color dodge (it all depends on which one looks best). When you use photo textures, you'll want to be careful with them because they can easily mess up your value, so make sure to adjust them before you use it.

I avoid using photos in my paintings because I'm terrible at adjusting them to fit my current painting. Maybe I should try that more..

Excellent! I love how seamlessly you incorporate particle effects with your solids and lighting. I often feel like particles clutter an image, but this almost feels like the image is just a background for the magic that's going on here.
