Yes, it sounds like a pokemon rip off but it's more related to Digimon.

This is just a few ideas I had for an interesting ARPG (Art role playing game), feel free to mess with it if you want.

The basic premise is: You are a regular artist, working away in your sketchbook. When one day a mysterious voice whispers to you, "You show great potential" or something like that. Before you can figure out where the voice came from, your sketchbook begins to glow brightly, flipping through to your oldest drawing. Slowly the picture peels off the page and after floating for a bit, becomes solid and animated. This character is your partner and your sketchbook is your 'Digivice' in a sense.
When you're not going through every day life, you're fighting terrible monsters and trying to find the owner of that mysterious voice.
Your sketchbook allows you to draw armor, items and weapons for your partner while in battle. You can draw or re use allies from any page you had previously drawn upon. You meet others like you with their own partners. But there will be times when your doodles won't be enough to take down a foe, in which you must search within your mind and heart for a new power for your partner. While your partner has their own unique attacks, this new power will transform them into a new stronger form.

Naturally as the adventures continue, you learn about your fellow artists, what they're partners represent as well as what the monsters really are and why the mysterious voice called upon you.

Spoilers(This is my timeline of events, you don't have to follow them):
The voice belongs to a god of creation who is fighting against a god destruction. The monsters were created from the insecurities of humanity-anxiety, jealousy, spite etc.
Your partners represent various aspects of art-Spontaneity, realism, detail, exaggeration etc.
