They walked through the facility, past the training rooms and wash rooms, past their cells and the cafeteria, past the labs and offices. Finally they reached the top most floor, none of them had been this high. There was a room with a big table and many chairs along with a chalkboard, there were bathrooms and bedrooms, and there were rooms with names on. Each had a kitter's name and an occupation. This must have been where the supervisors lived.
They went up one more flight into a dusty room filled with cobwebs and old school supplies. It was like an attic, but there was a hatch on the ceiling. The strange kitters opened it and one by one the test subjects were led out, into the old schoolhouse.
Once everyone was safely outside, the guild members and officers checked the meeps and kitters for any major problems. It had been quite disturbing entering the large gym like room and having them turn and stare in unison. What's more, they didn't fight or react, they just followed.
But what was most concerning, there were no scientists or potion makers or any authority figures. The best they could think of is that they realized they had company and left. Further investigation was needed. For now the kitters were safe, some had scars, some were missing whiskers or body parts, some didn't look well physically or mentally but they were safe.
Rekoj clumsily maneuvered their way through the crowd of kitters. Somehow they didn't imagine that there were this many kitters inside. Nevertheless, they wondered through, hoping that Ash didn't look any different from his dream. Suddenly they saw him, a blue claw and a dark blue arm. They rushed forward and hugged him. Ash squeaked, unsure of what was going on. Eventually whatever grabbed him turned him around. It was a yellow meep, with wide blue eyes, a big smile and... an odd jester's hat. Ash froze, he knew this meep, they had taught him, played with him. They were a friend he wanted to remember. But he couldn't, not everything. He remembered the feelings he felt in his coma: intrigue, curiousity, dizzy, happiness, silliness, laughter and worry. Rekoj waved their paw in front of Ash's face. Still smiling but concern in their eyes. "Do you know me?" They asked nervously. Ash sighed "I don't." Their face fell, "But I'd like to." he continued, giving his best smile.
Back in town, the various subjects were being treated, questioned and adopted. Rekoj remained with Ash the whole time, discussing his dream and revising their lessons. Ash listened patiently, feeling safe with them. Despite the number of patients, Dr. Aberdale didn't work long on each of them. The "supervisors" as they were called, seemed to do a good job at treating them. But there were some cases, involving unknown potions and effects, where patients were to remain for more treatment. Ash was one of those, the infection on his neck disturbed even Aberdale. At this point it would be ill advised to clean because of the formula used so the doctor advised Ash to have weekly check ups to ensure the infection didn't spread or worsen.
Once they were comfortable, the former subjects were questions by Rinley and Tumble about the facility and where the supervisors might have gone. Ash explain his life inside with great detail but kept interrupting the questioning with his own questions, Why was it bad? Do they have supervisors in town? What potions do they make? After questioning they were taken to the Meepery. Fern had his work cut out for him but he welcomed all of them with open arms. Many of them weren't accustomed to playing or eating solid food or even sleeping. Ash didn't entirely want to play but he was quite curious about the food and bedding.
Later that night Rekoj and Ash got into bed, they shared one since Ash wasn't sure on sleeping on his own yet. The bed felt so soft to him that he quickly fell asleep. Rekoj lay back on their pillow listening to the new meeps snoring on the floor, some of them didn't like their beds. While it was a bit crowded now, they felt good. The bugs were gone and their friend was safe.
