Rekoj hurried along through the dream hallway, eager to see Ash again. They would visit every night to teach him about the world, as well as play. The poor kid, not only is he stuck in dreamland but his home outside isn't too good either. Ash had told them that he'd lived underground for all his life, never allowed to go above ground and ate worms and rocks. Thinking about it may Rekoj shiver, Someday I'm gonna out and find him, They thought. But a thought soon popped into mind, underground is dark and damp. Full of all kinds of wriggling creatures, maybe even meep eaters! They shivered again, Maybe when I'm older and not so scared.
Ashton paced back and forth in a field of daisies. The field was previously all grass but after his lessons the world around him evolved and became more detailed. There were now animals, flowers and a few houses dotted his dream world. The more he learned, the more wanted to leave. Not only the dream but the facility he was in, everything sounded so much better outside. But how would he escape? One of many questions that crossed his mind but the one that had him pacing was whether he should tell Rekoj. Ash had lied about his true location, worried that somehow the supervisors were watching. They were everywhere in the facility and seemed smart enough to dream hop. On the one claw, Rekoj could help him escape but on the other claw, the supervisors could imprison them.
The ground rumble slightly, a gentle vibration.
Finally Rekoj arrived, happily flying over to the Muddie. "No classes today just recess!" They exclaimed. "I have a few ideas on what to do, we can play in some snow, have bubble races, charades..." Rekoj continued until they noticed Ash wasn't listening. They waited for him to notice them, Ash often got like this when lost in thought. His thoughts floated above his head, medicines, cages, needles and figures in white coats. Rekoj didn't like the look of them.
The ground rumbled again, a bit harder.
They tapped Ash on the shoulder, disturbing his train of thought. He jumped, turning with a look of panic on his face. "It's ok, it's ok, it's me." Rekoj quickly explained. Ash left out a long breath, "Sorry, just thinking." He replied. "Of cages and needles?" Ash winced, realizing his thoughts were showing. "What's wrong?" Rekoj asked. Well it's now or never and he began to explain.
The ground shook beneath them.
The two sat in silence for awhile, each thinking to themselves, promising not to look at each others thoughts. Finally Rekoj spoke, "I, I'm sorry you went through all that." "It's ok, it's not your fault." Ash replied. Silence. "I was actually thinking of finding you, before I got here," "I don't know if that's a good idea." "Yeah but I feel like I need to do something." They lay back on the grass, Ash followed. "I appreciate the thought, but I don't even know where I am." He said. Even if you did, the supervisors would find you.
There was a small earthquake.
They'd catch you and lock you up Rekoj noticed the shaking. You'd be stuck in a dark, cold cell!
Suddenly the ground split open
Ashton gasped, sweat pouring down his face. He looked around, seeing pill bottles and syringes. He lay on an operating table. He was awake.
