WELP here's that last ancient design notes page from 2016 I mentioned a zillion years (11 months) ago

Vahna is Yudi and Kesuna's mother that died mysteriously when they were young. She was quite young and inexperienced herself when she gave birth to Yudi. Yudi was 12 and Kesuna 7 when Vahna died, so Yudi was tasked with continuing to raise his sister. This is why the two of them have multiple rake marks on each other - sibling spats that had no mediator to resolve them.

Eve is a leucistic orca whose condition causes her trouble seeing and hearing. She was designed to be a love interest for Zar that he meets after he's long since been on his own. She's lost her family and cannot locate them because of her disability, and Zar has been craving companionship. Through her, Zar learns compassion and patience.
