In the 17th century, the Archanian Confederation resisted an attack from the north by an expansionist Tsarist Russia. More than a century later, the Archanian Federal Republic would seize nearly all of Russia’s far eastern and Siberian territories by force as Napoleon’s armies invaded the Russian mainland and claim them as their own via revanchist claims that the ancestors of the modern Archanian people were living there thousands of years earlier. Two centuries later, the Russian Federation would later lay revanchist claims to Archania’s Far Western Territories as its own, even as it was preoccupied with its ongoing invasion of Ukraine. The Archanian military keeps a diligent watch over the area and has reported sightings of Russian aircraft violating the airspace in recent years. And as diplomatic tensions between the two countries have somehow continued the escalate, such as with Archania’s economic sanctions on Russian coal, oil and gas, some bold Archanians in recent years have reasserted their country’s sovereignty over the Far Western Territories via some highly-publicized actions; For instance one patriotic resident of the Far Western Territories recently planted an Archanian Flag on top of a high peak in one of the many mountain ranges that crisscross the area.
In many aspects the territorial dispute over who owns Archania’s Far Western Territories is similar to the decades-long dispute over Janmu-Kashmir between India and Pakistan or the dispute over the Senkaku Islands between Japan and South Korea.
