Description EDIT: more rambling about my fluffy oc

Rey and Iris shortly before they let each other know they don't want to stay just platonic anymore. Yep, Rey is supposed to look shocked. Iris just hugged him out of nowhere, it was the best thing she could manage at that moment. Reynir used to be a bullied kid, his first girlfriend dumped him for weird reasons a few months ago (ok, she started to date him for weird reasons in the first place), and he just wasn't used to the idea someone besides his parents and an older brother could love him as he is. Let alone the girl he had a huge crush on and who shared most of the important future goals with him. And while Iris thought something like "ok, this was the last, desperate act I tried to see if he cares," Reynir was amazed, because no one has been this sweet to him before. Without extra hints, he could just keep on hugging and smiling and being a shy dork for weeks, still unsure if he reads the situation correctly. But they didn't have weeks...

These two are a funny couple. Years ago, Reynir played almost no role in my story, he was just a cute weirdo who played the guitar, wanted to become a pilot and lived happily ever after with a girl he met during pilot courses. But then I got to know my friend's character, Iris, we started to make jokes about these two getting close and I knew I need to rewrite Rey's CV a little, because they were just irresistible together  They are very different nature-wise and they solve problems in extremely contradicting ways, but they find an agreement in the most important stuff. Which is rare for both of them, because they are both kinda... specific

They have exactly opposite personalities. Reynir is a shy overthinker, freaks out in ridiculous situations and stays calm when others freak out. He avoids conflicts, tries to solve everything by just thinking logical. Iris, on the other hand, is an impulsive skinny demon, who doesn't think twice when it comes to fights. She was never girly enough, never popular, she had just one true friend, which happened to be a short, gay boy, who got bullied during elementary school. She's independent enough to not bother herself with the presence of people she doesn't like and she doesn't hesitate to tell them so. But when she met Reynir, something has changed. She became shy and sweet around him and for probably the first time in her life, she hoped the man will make the first step. But the man she chose was this overthinking, neurodivergent weirdo, who was scared of making a mistake. He felt so great next to her, but he also knew he's really shitty at reading other people. And that Iris has a flight ticket back to the UK somewhere in her backpack and will disappear in a few days.

But no, they couldn't resist. They got together and they started the sweetest relationship of the whole story. Iris found out what it's like to feel calm and she enjoys a nice, smart partner, who can be 110% reliable when needed. Rey likes the fact she's strong and honest, doesn't play shitty games and knows very well what she wants and doesn't want from her life. He loves everything about her, from the way she speaks, to the way they interact and prefer the same lifestyle, which is a bit different from the widely accepted standard. Even their wedding will be a very small, private event to prevent people from telling them what to do there xD

Haha, I finally draw Rey's shoulders as broad as they should look. He's a big guy, 194 cm tall, a hobby swimmer and used to regular exercise due to some innate problems with his lower back (probably mild spondylosis or something like that). The discipline is the only reason he hasn't turned into a tallow ball yet, because he really loves to eat xD He's also quite good at cooking and enjoys the process. Which is good, because Iris doesn't give a fuck about it xD Reynir is that kind of a man that doesn't complain when it comes to housework. He likes to put things in order, to make the place nice and comfortable. It does make sense to him and it calms him down, makes him feel like he has at least something under control.

There are still things I haven't decided/researched enough yet. Like the place where he was born. It was probably in Reykjavík, but I also thought about a possibility that it was in London. His parents, especially his father, have strong bonds with the UK, as he worked there for years. I also thought about letting Bjarki's whole family to live there for some time, while the kids were little. Maybe being diagnosed with HFA there would make the start of Rey's career a little bit easier, and he was surely diagnosed at some private clinic partly because of affecting his future possibilities, UK or not. (But in Ctrl, Eyvar admits he has a terrible, strong accent when speaking English, so it wouldn't make much sense if he grew up in London. And I don't intend to change that for a simple reason - I don't want Eyvar to be that kind of a perfect student who knew how to do absolutely everything. Sometimes I get the feeling he's stereotypical enough even without that.)

I have already decided some time ago that Reynir also had a twin - a sister who died a few hours after the birth. His parents are a couple of reasonable people and as the story developed further, I just couldn't imagine what could make them want to have a fourth child, as they already had seven years old twin sons that weren't exactly easy to handle, and a three years old son who was visibly turning into an autistic one. There just had to be something, a very emotive situation, that made them think about letting the unplanned child into this world. I couldn't just cancel Leifur, because he played a role in the Ctrl plot from the beginning. So Reynir was lucky after all, he got out of this just with weird vertebrae and extraordinary operating system. His sister's name was Sigurbjört, by the way. He often thought about how things could have been if she lived, when he was a lonely teenager. She was lowkey one of the reasons Rey's parents were ok with Iris living in their house after her return to Iceland. Their big house was too empty for their liking after all the kids except Reynir moved out. They missed having a daughter, Iris has never had a complete family, and they had nothing against the idea there would be a girl roughly Rey's age who would suddenly burst out laughing with their son upstairs. They liked her and got a little bit sentimental. Right now they are really happy they supported their relationship from the beginning and trusted their son's choice this time, because it's one of the best things they could do for him. They have always loved him a lot and tried their best to make him happy. With Iris, he grew up a lot as a person. He finally gained some self-confidence and discovered what it's like to love and completely trust someone. Thanks to her, he also found out that he can defend himself when needed and no one's going to attack him back like when he was seven years old. Yeah, there are things he's really slow at...

The girl he dated before was called Askja. She was interested in aircraft as well, so they had a thing in common. Rey was happy to be around someone he could share his obsession with. Askja was quite bored and needed some social experiment in her life, and Reynir seemed to be a perfect target. Nice and naive enough, very easy to handle. A good boy struggling to stand for himself. He was overwhelmed with all the sudden attention from her and really thought what's happening between them is a beginning of a serious relationship. He let the girl play with him and couldn't see any hints there's something odd between them, which were very obvious sometimes. He truly believed he was doing what he could to make it work, while Askja was just trying to find out if she's interested in being in relationship with, well, anyone. The sudden crash hit Reynir very hard. He's always been aware of his social clumsiness, but after starting to believe he's finally starting to be able to make someone feel nice things, this was a kick in the teeth. He didn't know what happened, what did he do wrong. He couldn't identify a mistake he could learn from, so he just ended up distant and frustrated for months. For him it wasn't just a break-up he couldn't process, it was a failure in everything he has tried so hard to achieve during almost twenty years. Because after learning what being autistic means and how it could affect his life, he tried his best to become as functional as he could. Not recognizing someone doesn't like and respect him even as a friend didn't fit into the concept of a functional person in his eyes at all.

Reynir was still affected by all of this when he met Iris. He liked her a lot, he felt so relaxed next to her. Iris was a cheerful companion. She threw the whole story of her life at Reynir the day they met, she kept talking and laughing and stealing his heart. To know so much about her in such a short time felt almost like being important and special for her. For the first time in his life, Rey felt free to talk to someone, felt accepted just as he was. They spent a few evenings together and it all seemed to be perfect. But all of this time, Rey kept in mind that maybe it's just an illusion again. Maybe she's this open and chatty with everyone and he's just a closest patient listener at the moment. Iris had a really hard time convincing him she really means it and has feelings for him. And she was sooo close to giving up. Luckily, Reynir recognized it's not a stupid game this time... Now the past experience helps him to appreciate this relationship even more.

Ok, that's all I did during my winter time off. This, and some sheepdog training. Me and my dog both have some postpubertal identity crisis, so nothing went as I imagined. *whiiiiine*
