Description By popular request, here is the cloud tutorial for you all!

I decided to make a bag because it would be too time-consuming to make another coat...

Hope it's helpful enough ^^

Edit: If you need some help making the coat, has a nice mini-tutorial here: [link]
^^

I was wondering how I'd do this lol

I have some question though.

1) Fabric. What's the best materials for the cloudy clouds? I'm was planning on using polyester cotton, cause it's cheap and I'm using that for the lining of my coat, but will that cause it to look cheap and nasty? Can you mix two different type of cottons (aka drill cotton for the white, poly cotton for the red), or will that make it look crap?

2) It looks here that this heat 'n' bond shiz cause the cutting out to look neat and smooth. Is this cause of the heat 'n' bond, or are you just good at neatly cutting it out?

3) How long will this take? I'm not exactly known for my patience... More for my lack of it.

4) WTF is heat 'n' bond?!

You could go with just about anything for the red as long as the fabric is something that will absorb the glue well, but for the white I'd recommend something thicker than a quilting cotton since the black of the coat will show through if the fabric is too thin

Heat n bond does help with the edges of the fabric. they might still fray a little bit over time, but the glue from heat n bond acts like a fray block for the most part.

I did most of it in the course of a few hours

Heat n bond is something you can use to make iron-on appliques. it's basically a thin layer of glue on a roll of paper, and you peel the paper off after you iron your fabric to the side of the glue opposite of the paper. It comes in rolls or you can buy it by the yard at a fabric store where the interfacing is.

yeah, they did steal it. I went ahead and asked him to remove it, but I don't know if they'll respond. I don't know what else I can do

Oooooh..... /rage/
Try flagging it? You can say that he stole it!!!

And can I also just say that I've used this tutorial for my akatsuki cloak and it's awesome!!!
Unfortunately, I did also turn it into my own mini-full-of-extra-details-tutorial for the benefit of my students. But!! it's only available to them as it's password protected.

I hope you don't mind!! >A<

how many clouds do you need on a cloack?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Malindachan In reply to 95Luther [2010-05-01 02:19:47 +0000 UTC]

it's all up to you. I just went with 4 myself, but I've seen people use more (it doesn't stay consistent throughout the show and manga, so it's pretty open as to how many you want to make for it)

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

95Luther In reply to Malindachan [2010-05-01 12:50:16 +0000 UTC]

Labryinth-Absurd [2010-03-12 15:43:20 +0000 UTC]

I have a question. Im gonna cosplay as an Akatsuki member, and I need to know.. What should I use for the collar part.. I want it to stand up, but not completely straight up, to have it sort of circle around the face..

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Malindachan In reply to Labryinth-Absurd [2010-03-28 21:29:01 +0000 UTC]

the collar I made for mine was basically a long rectangle, and i had a layer of quilt batting in-between the black fabric and red lining to keep it standing up (interfacing would probably work too)

i looove this!!
they turned out reallllly nicely on my akatsuki cloak!!!
but the one thing that im worries about....what keeps it from fraying at the edges????!!!!
is there anything i can do to not make that happen!!???

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Malindachan In reply to itachisunderworld [2009-12-06 20:42:39 +0000 UTC]

well, the heat n bond should help with that a lot. if you're still worried, you can use fray block or something

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

itachisunderworld In reply to Malindachan [2009-12-07 02:39:48 +0000 UTC]

oh, thats good, cuz it turned out really well, but then i had a flash of horror when i realized that it could fray...THNX!!!!! i think they sell that at walmart or hopefully, Michaels!!
