Description Be sure to check out my "Easy" bird tutorial as well: [link] :3

Edit: Thanks for the info: depending on your oven, you might be setting the temp. to 130 degrees celcius (which is the equivalence to 275 farenhait).

A few people have been requesting a tutorial for my clay stuff: [link] , so I decided to make one while I was home from college (and within reach of an oven! ^^).

Thanks to everyone for all the favs and comments on my cosplay stuff! They motivated me to make this tutorial.

Time to make this bird: 2-3 hours

This bird was given to my Tobi....because being Tobi means you get free stuff from Deidara ^^

Deidara and his clay creations are owned by himself and Kishimoto-sensei.

Liked your birds a lot. I'm not familiar with cosplay or deidra. If I understand corectly it has something to do with anime? If so I would appriciate a link to wikipedia or youtube or soemthing so I can check it out.

Furthur more, keep up this nice work.

PS Have you ever tried FIMO clay? It bakes real good. All my models are FIMO, sometimes I bake them sometimes I animated them. The bird (easter2) has a baked beak, so you can see that the color stayes very strong. The robot has standard gray, there are a lot of colors available.

Greetings

Yes, it is anime related - Deidara is a character from Naruto Shippuden. His special ability allows him to combine his chakra with clay to make bombs (his bombs are special though -he's an artist, so he usually forms them into birds, insects, etc). He also can enlarge his birds and flies on them. ^^
There's episodes on youtube if you are interested in watching the series, and Naruto stuff is all over the internet (it's hard to pick any exact links to post here ^^)

I have used Fimo Clay before, actually, but I used Super sculpey for these because I didn't want to risk the chance of them breaking

Wonderful tutorial! I found it very easy to follow.
:]
I made a little birdie, and I've named him 'Big Feets'. You'll never guess what part I had trouble with. xD

I'll be sure to take a picture so you can see him. :]

I made the bird rather easily and put it the oven but when i came back, THE WHOLE THING WAS BURNT! (LOL)
Turns out the temperature you told me to set my oven was wrong, its (130 degrees celcius) and 275 farenhait, so i ended up with a black bird (LOLOLOL).
Anyway you might want to put that in your comments because western ovens and eastern ovens are set differently. Thanks in advance!

Ah, didn't realize that (thanks for the tip)

well, even if it was burnt, It might still work (would just take several layers of paint). My birds always came out with scorched tails >.<

Wow thanks for listening, just to let you know, it had huge bubbles all over it and part of it melted making it look like a martian, a (small) portion of it was on fire as well.
Conclusion: Martian pigeon from outer space

I don't know if I'll make an eyescope tutorial anytime soon (now, if I had a lot of time on my hands, then I wouldn't mind making one ^^)
It was a challenge for me to make (I had to start over on it at one point)

Does it matter what color the clay is?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Malindachan In reply to manjyomesgirlie94 [2007-10-06 04:46:56 +0000 UTC]

well, the birds are supposed to be white....the clay I used was a skin-tone kinda color, but I painted it with acrylics to make it white ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

manjyomesgirlie94 In reply to Malindachan [2007-10-06 05:02:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Would it effect the color of the paint if I used a dark color?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Malindachan In reply to manjyomesgirlie94 [2007-10-06 05:57:07 +0000 UTC]

um....it might take SEVERAL coats of paint.....I donno. I haven't tried it.

Wow... I gotta try that some day.

How much did the clay cost you?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Malindachan In reply to TheSketcher [2007-09-30 17:55:17 +0000 UTC]

at Hobby Lobby, i got a box for only $7-8. It's a much better price than getting it at other places (like Jo-anne's....they want $13-14 a box...).
Hobby Lobby also sometimes has 30% off sales on the clays, so it's even cheaper then ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheSketcher In reply to Malindachan [2007-10-01 10:20:51 +0000 UTC]

The thing is, we don't have that kind of clay over here and I have to order it online if ever. Is one whole box a lot?

Anyway, thanks. Now I know how much it will cost at the very least.

Love your tutorial by the way. ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Malindachan In reply to TheSketcher [2007-10-01 12:23:13 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say its "a lot". It was a nice amoung though. It was just enough to make Deidara's clay dragon....and with another whole box, we made a mask for Tobi.
