was considered an honorable warrior amongst her fellow quartz soldiers back in homeworld; strong & ruthless. though her compassionate nature was what kept her from being the 'very best'; always looking out and returning for fellow soldiers who'd fallen back/etc. as valuable as she was, her higher-ups considered her consideration for her peers a 'weakness that must be eliminated.'
the way jaspers were taught to act never sat right with belly. the same with homeworld's notion towards....just about everything else. things like that filled her with doubt. as if there was something wrong with her, that she should feel ashamed for not being 100% heartless. after fleeing, she eventually came to terms with herself.
kindness & compassion is something belly deeply values & loves herself for. to her, being 'soft' in worlds so malicious and unfair is the greatest form of strength, while succumbing to cruelty, an act of cowardice.
