finally an updated reference, this guy changed a lot over the past year

so the Shepherd is a design i originally created a few years ago because i wanted to have an edgy online persona, though i did not post him on devantart until much later because i was anxious about putting any of my oc's online

i was also gonna originally just call him my own name Yun since he was meant to be my persona, but hes become his own character now, so i decided to give him his own name. not a lot of thought was put into it, its purely based off the picture i drew thats titled the same thing www.deviantart.com/manic-yun/a…

okay character lore time

let me specify his race first. so when i say cosmic horror i basically mean those lovecraft style gods that are unfathomable or something. because of this he's just a deus ex machina,, "gotta break the 4th wall" kinda character and he bends the rules of my universe quite a bit. basically he stands at the top and he's gonna be my only character that exists outside the rules like this. well except for one more self inserty character but i likely wont bring him up again for a while.
also since his race is ambiguous he technically doesn't have a gender cause who need gender when you're a cursed space monster
anyway due to the nature of this character his stories are mostly gags and worldbuilding, maybe an existential crisis or two

personality ~~~~
whimsical, really just does whatever he wants at any given time. has a few screws loose but is somewhat self aware of it, tends to be sarcastic and likes to tease people whenever there's a chance. he's also kinda aloof and shamelessly lazy. if he's not doing something incredibly questionable and dangerous, then he's probably just chillin out
he's roleplaying as a researcher, but never specifies what kind. definitely doesn't have a real degree but knows a lot of cursed information
-one topic that had caught his attention are what he simply calls "observers" an entity that seems to phase in and out through dimensions and just, watches. sometimes sticking to a host to influence their will.

also he's a picky eater, normally i wouldn't mention useless details like this but its an important factor in how he meets my other character, Lint.
he doesn't like most sweets, tends to pick apart his food

alright let's talk abilities ~~~~~
he can shapeshift, this is the form he uses most. the "anime" form. he's got a "dragon swarm" form. ( www.deviantart.com/manic-yun/a… ) and he's got his main body, which is the ambiguous, ever-shifting, shadow blob thing. i drew an outline of it in the background.
he's also able to shift parts of his body as he likes. his tail can extend to any length and he can sprout more of them. claws can lengthen. he generally uses two pairs of wings that works like a dragonfly's wings. and he can basically split open his chest to eat if the mouth wasn't enough. his body becomes shadowy and hazy when he morphs. he can open up these shadowy portals for parts of his body to come through. he can transport this way too
he can also float and phase through physical objects, use all kinds of magic, and regenerate any wounds.

trivia~~~~~~
- the four horns on his head are more like antennae, they can sense all kinds of things from the smallest vibrations to mana in the atmosphere. they are also a 'link' to his main body. so if they're damaged it hurts like hell and would screw up his body for a bit until they regenerate.
- the mask he wears is a living part of his body. its basically a removable exoskeleton that he can still feel/see out of even if he leaves it somewhere.
- he can retract the frills on his back too
- he speaks through "rings" which is just emitting sound from nowhere. he can control who hears and doesn't hear his voice but its not telepathy, it'll still pick up on recordings and stuff
- he can talk normally too but it doesn't come naturally since he doesn't breathe, its a pain in the ass. makes a sort of clicking noise when speaking this way
-the legs at the end of his tail and move around and grab stuff, the fluffy part in the center is mist-like
- has the ability to make other living things his "familia" its like a familiar contract, he only makes it with animals though but can make one with people too. this man is practically a zookeeper with all the critters hes got
- does not have an affinity (an affinity is basically like pokemon typings, there's 11 in total and its one of the "rules of the universe" he breaks since everyone has to have one)

there's more but i got all the main stuff out of the way. i'm working on a project for this character so i don't wanna spoil it all.
