Duncan Part 24-25

Duncan slowly opened his eyes but all he could see was darkness; the back alley was completely fogged with smoke which invaded his nostrils. All the city was on fire by that point. The wounded hybrid stirred only to let out a pained groan, so weakened from the last gunshot that he couldn't move. Then suddenly, he heard a familiar voice.

"Get up, Duncan."

Duncan was able to shift his head to look up; the fire revealed his father looming over him.

"Get up," He-Man repeated.

Duncan tried to lift himself again, grunting as he faltered while trying to get on his feet.

"You must get up!" His father pressed.

He tried again, clenching his eyes shut as he did so, and pausing briefly this time to regain his strength before attempting to stand up again.

"Get up! ...Get up!" He-Man's voice raised as he urged/encouraged his son.

Finally, the prince got to his feet, having fought off against the pain of his wounds.

The monarch's expression softened; he moved to his son's side, gently putting a hand on his shoulder and squeezing it. "Now, come with me."

He-Man started guiding his son away from the area he fallen in the deserted streets as a flaring light announced the fire closing in. Embers started falling from above and soon, the alley was engulfed by the flames. The father stood by the son's side, not caring that the latter was slowing him down due to his broken wings. The two princes made their way through the blazing landscape just to be forced to take a detour when the flaming inferno cut off their escape route. Duncan turned to see the buildings set aflame while he and his father tried to keep as much distance as possible from them. Once more, the raging flames showered from nowhere in front of them, yet they kept moving forward. He-Man surveyed the area to decide which way they would go; even though he made sure to choose the safest looking path, the duo still had to jump over a curtain of fire. As if it were possessed, the inferno would not give them rest; each and every turn was blocked either by burning buildings or exploded vehicles. Then, one by one, the constructions gave in; crumbling to the ground and almost putting an end to a long lineage of princes. He-Man and Duncan came to a sudden halt at the edge of a tall, vertical seawall damaged from the battle. A booming explosive sound was heard in the distance. Both father and son felt the heat in their wide-eyes when they saw a giant cloud of smoke and ash spreading through the city block towards them. That gave them the last push they needed to jump off; their bodies disappearing on the crashing waves.

The flames overtook the city and raised to the night sky, giving the impression that the air itself was shimmering. The river stream flowing through a waterway cut the city in half. Not too far from the main bridge was a small solitary island untouched by the fight, creating a tiny black spot on the otherwise brightened surface of the water.

As well as a sanctuary for those who survived the fire.

Most of the mutants and monsters are there. Aircraft of all shapes and sizes were being used to transport the citizens, while the flyers helped out with rescue missions alongside the ones who had super-strength. Some commanders oversaw the operations from afar but others would go to lead the teams into the thick of the inferno in person. Non-combatants gathered around their loved ones, being them either family members or dear friends; the children cuddled to their parents' side. Those from the same communities assembled to mourn the destruction of their home in solemn silence. Others stood vigilante on the beach, awaiting the return of somebody they held dear in their hearts at the same time they prayed for their safety. Among the latter group is Clawdeen, who is waiting longingly for Duncan.

The young werewolf peered across the area and kept her ears on the lookout for the boy she loved, her trusty nose would not be of help with all the smoke in the air. Still, there was no sign of him. She lowered her face in sadness, fearing the worst had transpired. She looked around the river one more time...

Her heart almost escaped through her throat.

Two figures were swimming their way to the island. The lack of a light source made it difficult to see them clearly but Clawdeen could still make out the silhouettes. The bigger one with a huge physique could only be Prince Adam in his transformed state, but the one she had her eyes glued to was the smaller of the duo, whose tanned muscles while not as impressive were just perfect for her, for they belonged to the one she loved.

"Duncan!"

The Prince perked at the familiar voice that called out his name. Spotting her on the shore, he immediately rushed to the beach, embraced her, and spun around as he held her in his arms. They pulled back their faces but never stopped hugging each other, their eyes locked, then they leaned in for their lips to join together in a sweet and passionate kiss. Duncan didn't bother to resist the urge to nuzzle with his mate as they deepened the liplock. The she-wolf was happy to accept it. Once they separated, the pair held each other tightly while staring off in the direction of their home.

The fires snuffed and the seasons passed. Most of the city had been cleared up of debris while reconstruction was underway. People were getting back to work, schools were opening and life was returning to normal, even if some marks from the fire were there to stay.

Resting on the summit of the Eyrie Building, an incredibly tall skyscraper that stretched higher than the cloud cover, was the Manhattan Clan's ancestral home, Castle Wyvern. The sun was due to set soon enough and the Gargoyles would awake.

Then, the elevator of the penthouse opened, and a Family of humanoid turtles went to one of the statues. It's Raphael's family. The patriarch lifted a semi-large hammer and swung it at the giant gong his Family had given to the Manhattan Clan as a gift years ago. The booming sound reverberated each time he hit it, its loudness would hopefully wake this particular gargoyle out of his slumber.

Raphael shouted eagerly. "Wake up! Wake up, Hudson!"

His hatchlings followed after his lead. "Wake up, Hudson!"

Hudson's eyes shone white before he broke the crusty layer of stone surrounding him with a roar. Shaking off to regain his bearings, he let out a tired groan towards the visitors. "Oh, what now?" He spoke in a gruff tone then heard the sounds of commotion coming from below; he shifted himself to look down the streets and his face turned baffled at the familiar sight of a parade of vehicles passing by under the cover of several aircraft. "Hey, what's going around here?"

Casper emerged from within the castle wall and beamed at him. "It's happened."

Hudson was surprised upon hearing that. "Happened?"

The Friendly Ghost gave him a nod. "Yes, in the palace." He spun his head back toward the rampart, floating off above the city. Hudson already was a few wing-flaps ahead. "Hurry up, Dani."

His daughter appeared and followed after him. "Yes Papa, I'm coming."

Goliath carried Raphael and the hatchlings as he led the rest of his clan to join their kin in the night sky, flying alongside the Primate Avenger, the Turbokat, and the Skycophagus. An alley opened to reveal the Shell Raiser coming out of the sewers. Both the Extreme Dinosaurs and the Kung Fu Dino Posse rushed through the roads after the trial of the Biker Mice. The Street Sharks emerged from the bay near the palace before heading in side-by-side with the Road Rovers. All groups of mutants and monsters converged inside a spacious room, those in vehicles having parked across the castle grounds, and soon all had gathered in a circle around the large lush bed; Raph made sure to find a good spot for his family, determined to get the best view.

"Oh my." The guests muttered awestruck at the sight before them. "Well!" Within the royal chambers, there's a familiar scene: a mother with her newborn children. It's Clawdeen.

"Look." Somebody exclaimed as two hybrid babies woke up after a sound rest by their mother's side. "Two of them."

The first one opened its eyes for the first time and looks up, seemingly confused by the cooing crowd. Its sibling was already attempting to sit upright and turned to nibble on the other's wolf ears, making the latter shake him off in response.

Hudson gave a warmhearted chuckle. "Hee, hee, hee. I don't believe I've ever seen a more likely-looking pair of younglings." He regarded Clawdeen as the mother wolf watched and held on to her offspring in a tender embrace. "Prince Duncan ought to be mighty proud."

From the palace's roof, the majestic father and son duo had watched the entire scene from one of the castle's windows, standing regal and stoic as a pair of rulers should be.
