Description Plot

Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, and Scrappy-Doo travel to the western town of Tumbleweed County to visit Scooby’s brother Yabba-Doo and his master Deputy Dusty. However, their reunion is cut short when the sheriffs are called out to investigate cattle rustling at the Dixon Ranch, only to find out that all the 500 head of cattle were stolen in a single night by Alameda Slim, a notorious outlaw; leaving only Mr. Dixon’s prized show cow Maggie. Dixon has no other choice than to sell Maggie to Pearl Gesner, a kind, aging woman who runs a small farm called Patch of Heaven.

Eventually, Dusty arrives with his chief, the local Sheriff Sam Brown, at the farm to tell Pearl that her bank is cracking down on debtors. Pearl has three days to pay the bank $750, or Patch of Heaven will be sold to the highest bidder. Hearing this, Maggie convinces the other cows on the farm (Grace, a happy-go-lucky character, and Mrs. Calloway, who has had leadership gone to her head) to go to town to attempt to win prize money at the Tex-Oka-Sas Tri-State Fair.

Back in town, the gang receives a message from Uncle Albert confirming that Dr. Phibes’s been buying farm animals at the County’s black market to use for genetic engineering experiments, indicating a possible link between him and Slim’s criminal activities. A bounty hunter named Rico (whom Buck, Sam’s horse, idolizes) drops a criminal off and collects the reward. Stating he needs a replacement horse to go after Alameda Slim while his own horse rests, he takes Buck. When Maggie finds out that the reward for capturing Slim is exactly $750, she convinces the other cows to try and capture him to save Patch of Heaven. Meanwhile, the gang wards off one of Phibes’s first-generation super bulls.

That night, the cows hide among a large herd of steers and bump into Scrappy, Dusty, and Yabba-Doo who are also on a stakeout (the latter two disguised as a lady bull), when Alameda Slim appears. Before any of them can do anything, Slim begins a yodeling song that sends all the cattle (except Grace, who is tone-deaf) into a trance that causes them to dance madly and follow Slim anywhere, dragging Dusty and Yabba along. Grace is able to bring Maggie and Mrs. Calloway back to their senses just before Slim closes the path behind him with a rockslide to stop the New Gang+, Rico, and his men from chasing him.

As Rico discusses with his men what his next move will be, Buck starts talking with Maggie, Grace, and Mrs. Calloway as old friends and miming actions. This causes Rico to believe Buck is frightened by cows and sends Buck back to Sam. Buck escapes, determined to capture Slim for himself to prove his worth. The cows and the gang join forces to capture Slim and rescue their friends.

When they lose the trail in a flash flood, the cows have a fallout. Mrs. Calloway accuses Maggie of wanting to go after Slim only as a personal vendetta, arguing that she and Grace are better off without Maggie. The group spends the night under a large rock, with Maggie deciding to leave with the gang the next morning while Grace & Mrs. Calloway decides to return to Patch of Heaven to say their final farewells. The next morning, however, they are awakened by a peg-legged jackrabbit named Lucky Jack, who has also lost his home, an old mine, to Alameda Slim. Maggie decides to go after Slim with the gang and Lucky Jack in tow, but Grace convinces Mrs. Calloway that they help. Lucky Jack leads the group to Slim's lair in Echo Mine.

At the mine, Slim reveals that he has been stealing all cattle from his former patrons. When his former patrons can no longer support their land, Slim buys the land when it is auctioned off, under the guise of the respectable-looking Yancy O'Dell, using the very money he gets from selling the cattle he stole. He then yells at his nephews/accomplices the Willie Brothers for bringing in an unhealthy-looking cow. They drop it into a mud puddle and the disguise comes off Dusty and Yabba. Slim acts threatening and timid Deputy Dusty tries to back off. Meanwhile, Yabba gets up on a rock above the rustler and tries to lasso him. Instead, he lassos Dusty and himself into a big ball of rope. The rustlers proceed to lock the two law enforcers into a wooden shed.

Later, Slim's assistant Mr. Wesley arrives with Dr. Phibes and his henchman to make cash out of the stolen cattle. Phibes orders his techies to start working on the herd, creating a new, more dangerous, and stronger set of super bulls. The gang and the cows reach Echo Mine and separate to deal with Phibes and capture Slim respectively, barely missing Agents 1 and 2’s attempts to dispose of them with a hissing goat (which the duo thought was a snake).

Slim is captured by Maggie, Grace, and Mrs. Calloway, who plugged their ears to avoid his yodeling. Phibes unleashes his bull army to destroy the town. The gang rescues Dusty and Yabba, with Shaggy taking the cow costume to divert the herd back while Scooby paints the hideout in red so the bulls will destroy it instead. A chase between the cows, the Willies, Buck, and Rico ensues throughout the mine, culminating with all groups colliding with Phibes’ train as it flees the destruction. Slim frees himself and rounds up the cows, praises Rico, who is revealed to be a mercenary working for him, dons his O'Dell costume, and goes to attend the auction of Patch of Heaven, hoping to buy the farm.

However, Buck redeems himself and goes back to free the cows, the gang arrives to join in the fray, and they all battle Phibes, his agents, Rico, and The Willies together. After defeating the bad guys, the New Gang+, the cows, Dusty, and Yabba-Doo use the train to head back to the farm, where, alongside the farm animals, they engage in a skirmish with Slim and throw him in a chimney of the train, exposing him. Slim is arrested, and Patch of Heaven is saved by the reward money. Maggie decides to stay and she and Mrs. Calloway reconcile.

A few weeks pass, and at Tex-Oka-Sas Tri-State Fair most of the livestock on Patch of Heaven have won prizes. 'Lucky' Jack Rabbit moves in with Jeb the Goat, and two steer Bob and Barry and Slim's charming and gentlemanly steed Junior the Buffalo arrive unexpectedly to live at Patch of Heaven, expanding the farm. Pearl throws a party and she, Sam, the animals, Dusty, Yabba-Doo, and the New Gang+ all dance in celebration.

After the credits, Phibes is shown running away from Cocky, a crossed-eyed, eleven feet tall, genetically engineered rooster created by his techies.

Trivia
  • Scooby's brother Yabba-Doo and his master Deputy Dusty will guest star in this movie.
  • Like Buck, Agent 2 is revealed to be a huge fan of Rico; unlike Buck, he doesn't care he is a criminal.
  • This is the only Shaggy and Scooby-Doo's Adventures Series movie not to feature any of the gang's members other than Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy; Shaggy says that Daphne is visiting her parents and Flim-Flam went with her in hopes of establishing a partnership, making Shaggy, Scooby, and Scrappy the only characters to appear in every movie of the series.
  • This movie has several references to the Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! episode Scooby Dudes and the Scrappy & Yabba-Doo episode Yabba's Rustle Hustle.
