My beef is that they are almost always said to be superior for inapplicable, just plain wrong, or even nonexistent reasons.

Tyrannosaur domination was out of dumb luck. If the Turonian didn't bring up a mass extinction of carnosaurs they would have been limited to the small-predator niche.

Yes, but carnosaurs could feast on foods that tyrannosaurs couldn't, so that isn't evidence of superiority.

Tyrannosaurs were certainly faster (due to the arctometatarsals), but they weren't as agile. They were more akin to straight-line sprinters or endurence runners than gymnasts. A carnosaur would have better luck with targets that could turn on a dime. And the very largest tyrannosaurs sacrificed a lot of that speed advantage.

Alamosaurus almost certainly had no predators. It's WAY too big for even a pack of tyrannosaurs. The "what was hunting it" is an argument made by fanboys. Not all herbivores have to have a predator of adult individuals to control their populations. The small juveniles were hunted and that kept the population down, but the average Alamosaurus is way  too big for any land carnivore of the time.

But I kind of doubt the carnosaurs' staple food source to turn on a dime considering most large objects already have trouble turning, and sauropods are the largest of the large. It may have been luck, but remember that the Turonian also resulted in the large sauropods dying out and armored herbivores being the dominant prey. With teeth that would break against the armor and the lack of speed to keep pace with them, carnosaurs were just not working out in North America and Asia. I'm sure even if the sauropods and carnosaurs didn't die off in those continents together, the tyrannosaurs would have still found a place where their armor piercing would hit it big.

Carnosaurs eat sauropods, tyrannosaurs eat armored ornithischians. They both are efficient predators, but for entirely different specializations. I am still getting this carnosaur-fanboy vibe in you and just because one predator hunts the biggest prey doesn't make it the superior predator. In fact it can be a cripple just as much as the tyrannosaurs armor piercing traits as seen with the Turonian sauropod-carnosaur extinction.

Carnosaurs can hunt other items (remember all the cases of interaction between Allosaurus and stegosaurs).

Sekley In reply to acepredator [2015-06-14 01:58:19 +0000 UTC]

Jurassic carnosaurs seem to be the exception though compared to their descendants. The big carcharodontosaurs in the Cretaceous had the problem of ankylosaurs which had much more developed osteoderms. By that point carnosaurs were left even more specialized than they already were because now stegosaurs were all, but extinct. Stegosaurs had a very different defense strategy from their ankylosaur relatives, a strategy which carnosaurs could work around. The ankylosaur armor seems almost specifically designed to counter carnivores like carnosaurs. The osteoderms splinter the teeth and the club heavily damages the more delicate facial bones. Tyrannosaurs came closer to countering this armor thanks to their jaws and robust skulls, granted not by much as even they would've stayed away from these things most of the time. Also don't pull the ornithopods out as another food source to claim that the carnosaurs had more dietary options than tyrannosaurs, we both know it was possible for both tyrannosaurs and carnosaurs to catch them regardless if they were teenagers or lumbering adults.

acepredator In reply to Sekley [2015-06-14 12:27:50 +0000 UTC]

To be fair ankylosaurs ARE effectively carnosaur-proof, but the point was that they could hunt things other than sauropods unless they were completely armoured.

Sekley In reply to acepredator [2015-06-14 19:21:08 +0000 UTC]

And tyrannosaurs could hunt non-armored prey too as seen with the hadrosaurs and the teenage rexes love for fast moving, small game. The two types of theropods have pretty much opposite weaknesses.

But less effectively (due to the fact teeth that are designed for crushing bone are blunter).

Okay I get it you're a carnosaur fanboy. Have fun living in ridicule when you try to claim carnosaurs are better than other predators in front of more people...

acepredator In reply to Sekley [2015-06-15 20:52:05 +0000 UTC]

Not that they are better than other predators, but that they are better suited to this type of combat due to their hunting style.

Completely disagree
How do you think Spinosaurus would win?
It's slower,not as strong.
T-rex is more evolved.

Even then everyone needs to realize none of them could fight in real life.

ChrissonatorOFL In reply to TheChocolateZorua [2015-06-17 11:46:55 +0000 UTC]

I would agree, short of the "more evolved" statement, evolution isn't a ladder.

However, in reality, Spinosaurus and T. rex would've never met... they lived in two different time periods and in two different locations, but if they were to fight, T. rex has the jaw power that Spinosaurus lacks... the fact that Spinosaurus was able to break free from an at least 6 ton bite force is silly, not to mention, Spinosaurus' jaw was adept at eating fish, etc. so its jaws were not built like T. rex.

The whole thought of a Spinosaurus taking down T. rex is unfounded.

acepredator In reply to TheChocolateZorua [2015-06-02 19:03:17 +0000 UTC]

More evolved? No such thing as that.

Also, while Spino IS slower, it isn't weaker. Its btie force is a LOT higher than what people say, mostly due to tis huge size: around 2-3 tons.
phenomena.nationalgeographic.c…

It wins by default. T. rex cannot kill anything larger than itself BECAUSE of its strong bite. The adaptations required for that are exactly opposite to what you need to kill Spino.

Now we could argue all day about this,I've got links and shit I can throw at you.

But I'm not going to.
Because either way we'd lose.

You can't find out something if it never has,and never will happen. -n-

This is something I'm really hoping to see happen. T. rex seriously needs some redemption after the atrocity that was Jurassic Park 3.

Umm, good for you? But unlike you, if the T. rex loses again almost everyone else think the film's been ruined and likely start a riot. I mean do you seriously hate T. rex that much that you don't want it to beat the antagonist of the story? That's honestly really pathetic, dude.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

acepredator In reply to Justisaurus [2015-06-10 14:18:28 +0000 UTC]

No, because the antagonist is way out of T. rex's league.

Well we won't know for sure until the movie, so I'd suggest just sitting back and enjoying what Trevorrow has to offer the audiences when it comes out.

I sort of want to see the I. Rex kill the T. Rex. It would be pretty funny, I think, to see the storm angry T. Rex fans kick up over having their favourite dinosaur killed twice in a row.

Hello mr. brusier
I really agree with you Gigantosaurus is both strong as Tyrannosaurus and larger
Plus it probably hunted sauropods in its area too

bruiser128 In reply to grisador [2015-04-14 14:03:33 +0000 UTC]

Sure Giganotosaurus may have the size and head, but Indominus has the reach and plating.

I am now under the idea that to add corvid DNA to the mix the improve the arm and intelligence
especially.

Out of EVERYTHİNG;
İndominus Rex HAS Venom Aand Giant Human-like Arm/Claws !
These abilities can even beat the Mapusaurus, Oxalia; heck even Spinosaurus !

I am Pretty sure She has Cuddlefish DNA...
Very sure that Venom thing mentioned

Even she hasn't has venom she still has Epic Claws
I mean compare those to what Tyrannosaur has

Here is the page from the official website that confirms what I have been saying:
www.jurassicworld.com/dinosaur…

And for the Arms... I have absolutely no idea where they come from other than
Spinosaurus.

grisador In reply to bruiser128 [2015-04-14 21:20:10 +0000 UTC]

I looked it and its wiki page; it says 'some' material DNA;
İt means the 'could be' more dna (at first even the producters mentioned cuddlefish venom; at least at first)

And indeed so do I; look at Rugops & Majunga ! They even don't have arms anymore ! Maybe Gigantosaurus has a slightly larger claws but not THİS much big !
Maybe %1 Human dna ? Or % 12 Spinosaur dna ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bruiser128 In reply to grisador [2015-04-14 21:55:19 +0000 UTC]

Well if it had cuttlefish DNA, it would have a more lovecraftian look.
Although it may actually be the skin colour that is Cuddle Fish.

But someone by the Name of TREY the Explainer said human dna could
eplain why Irex "Kills for Sport".

Do you see Spikes on her neck ? ---> and her face and Eye's look 'very' Albino/Lovercraftian-ish

To be honest I like TREY the Explainer channel; really.
But he REALLY dissapointed me when he so eagerly jumped on and say : '' Smaller and Four legged Spinosaurus can't go out of water ''

Also a commentor said the animal kills for sport just like 'cats' do

bruiser128 In reply to grisador [2015-04-16 10:58:30 +0000 UTC]

I war more referring to the head ornaments and skin being the influence.
The arms come from somewhere else.

grisador In reply to bruiser128 [2015-04-17 15:45:55 +0000 UTC]

I think its head spike's pointing its venomous ancestory; the albino color points its ' Hybrid State/Being '

And Hands : Human DNA ! ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bruiser128 In reply to grisador [2015-04-17 16:28:46 +0000 UTC]

First off head spikes or ornaments of any kind are usually associated for only mating season purposes.
Second Albinism happens is a rare genetic mutation because their environment will be their biggest
enemy since they can't blend in.

Think about it, what dinosaur has more than three digits on their hand?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

grisador In reply to bruiser128 [2015-04-18 15:54:47 +0000 UTC]

Actually İndominus Rex hand is monkey like if you look closer; four fingers and such.

But I am sure about  Digit's until ı see the Movie.

'Genetic Mutations' and 'Genetically Engineered Hybrids' are two words very close to eachother

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bruiser128 In reply to grisador [2015-04-18 16:03:58 +0000 UTC]

Your right because when you look at a hand of Indominus

a trait only seen in primates.
