Sequel to: All Ways Are Her Ways- An Arin the Genie Story(Mobile Version) After the long school day, teacher Denise Miller had to stay on more to oversee the school’s chess club. She was ready to go home and get out of her professional blouse, skirt, heels, and pantyhose so she could relax. However, Denise sponsored the Chess Club even though she never cared too much about the game. The club was in danger of dissolution, so she stepped in to ensure it would endure. She enjoyed helping these kids, often amongst the nerdiest and bullied in the school. This club was a sanctuary for them.Take President Bernadette, Bernie to her friends was the primary teacher to the new player who might know aspects of the game but never played it. Bernie was not the best player, and she was shy outside of the club. However, Bernie’s passion for chess made her the face of the club as she became a different person in the club. Bernie was a Navy Brat, the oldest of two kids with a younger brother. She was the daughter of a presently deployed American proud of his Scottish ancestry and a Brazilian mother from overseas. She fit into the club with her Harry Potter t-shirts, Hufflepuff scarf, wild frizzy hair, and glasses. She wore plaid skirts with her family’s tartan pattern from her father, and her mother exposed her to the geek world from an early age. Most people don’t believe Bernie is half Brazilian since she looks more like Linda from Rio! She spoke clearly and plainly unless she spoke about Harry Potter and chess, where she gained unbridled enthusiasm. Those things aside, she pinned all over her book bag nearly any nerdy item conceivable. Such a club was a godsend for her.Bernie helped to break in the newer members while others played among themselves, and Vice President Blake prepared the more advanced club members for an upcoming tournament. The other club members turned the desks into makeshift tables to play chess and socialize. While the students did their own thing, Denise worked on her phone. That was one good thing about the club; the members required little instruction. Though, Denise had her eye on a new person who talked to Bernie. A young woman who looked a little older to be a student, maybe a chaperone? Older sibling? They looked nothing alike. This young woman’s skin was more earthy. This strange newcomer also had strange attire, at least enough to raise eyebrows. She wore a bright red veil over her face and a matching skirt. She wore silk stockings and fiery red heels to match the veil. She wore a red scarf that covered most of her flaming orange hair and the tops of her ears. A modest, white business shirt covered what had to be an above-average form and covered something on her wrists, jewelry? Why would someone wear jewelry and then cover it? She had a jeweled choker on as well with a gemstone in it.While Denise pondered who this could be, Bernie suddenly appeared in her peripheral vision. “Hey, Ms. Miller, you said you’ve never played chess?”“I’m not familiar; I never learned,” Denise replied.Bernie smiled, “How about I teach you?”Denise hesitated but then returned the smile. What’s the harm? Bernie’s specialty was teaching people what the little horsie does. “Certainly, I wouldn’t mind trying a game.”Bernie clapped as she beamed excitedly. She put her bag down on the floor and pulled out what looked like a chessboard as thick as an encyclopedia! She set it on the desk with the board side down first, and underneath was felt, with chess pieces set inside. The pieces were artistic, with everyone from the king down to the lowly pawn artistically crafted. They were made of stone, but they had metal stands with cloth bottoms to protect the ornate board from damage. Furthermore, a layer between the felt bottom that held the pieces and the board itself was magnetized just enough to keep them upright but soft enough that a player picked them up effortlessly. The pieces had faces and whole bodies, clothed and armored. The King and Queen stood regally robed with staves. The bishops were Templars with great swords. The Knights were clad in armor on horses, and they wielded lances. The Rooks were also covered in armor with mighty halberds. Finally, the pawns made up the front line as levy spearmen with round shields on the white side and kite shields on the black side.Bernie set up the chess board for both players, "Would you rather play white or black?"Denise stroked her chin in thought. "White moves first, right?" Bernie nodded in affirmation, and Denise sat on the white side, "I'll be white."Bernie's excitement grew, "Oh? Bold choice! While a good defense can be fun, I admire someone who wants to take the initiative in the game. Well, good luck Dame Miller."Denise learned that the chess club members refer to each other in noble terms. While they have a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer on paper, they use ranks of nobility for their skill level. All are Sirs and Dames once they become full-fledged members. Once they get one win, they become Lords and Ladies. However, the competitive teams have more specific terms of nobility based on French titles. At the top was King Blake, as he had yet to be beaten, Bernie was beneath him as a Duchess, and the rankings followed: Marquess/Marchioness, Earl/Countess, Viscount/Viscountess, and then Baron/Baroness.The game was slow, as Denise wanted not to ask for help. Though, the funny faces Bernie made Denise reconsider her options. However, she always made decisions at the moment based on the goal: capture the king. She was trying to capture as many pieces as she could for that goal.Denise slowly lost pieces as the game drug on. Once they were gone, Denise saw what Bernie sighed. Denise could tell that Bernie held back and that the Duchess chess player slowly crept closer to Denise’s king. However, the President would not take the more valuable pieces, such as Denise’s queen, as if she was giving her opportunities.Bernie taught the teacher, “Always remember, your Queen is the most powerful piece. All ways are the Queen’s ways.”Denise felt distracted by the orange-haired woman that chaperoned Bernadette as she talked to students as they slowly filtered out. The redhead drank tea and continued to be an enigma. However, Denise tried to focus back on this game. The issue was that as Denise pondered what to do next, it was as if her brain was fried. She found that she had a hole for her queen and struck! Denise smiled as she moved the queen to check the king! “Check! That's… a check right?”Bernie smiled like a proud teacher. "Yes, it is check. Now, I must move my king out of check."Denise claps, "Yes! Then I'll…." Denise double-checked and saw she couldn’t pursue the king without losing her queen. She was backed into the metaphorical corner. She moved a pawn forward only because she saw no other options. However, this movement sealed her fate, as it opened a lane for Bernie's queen she held in reserve for a check on Denise’s King. Bernie declared checkmate thanks to a strategically placed knight to prevent the Denise’s King from escaping.Denise sank in her seat, "Dang, you got me, Bernie!"Bernie extended her hand, "Good game, Dame Miller."Denise chuckled, "Thank you, Duchess Bernie."Bernie waved her hand invitingly over the board, “Another game? You’ll get better the more you play.”Denise shook her head and looked around. The only ones left were Bernie, her, and the mystery redhead. “Sorry, I need to close everything down. Maybe another time.”Bernie deflated some and began to put up her board. Denise got up and gave the president a reassuring smile, “Let me go to the little teacher’s room. Do you have a ride home?”“Arin is my ride.” Bernie motioned towards the redhead, now revealed to be named Arin.Denise nodded and rose, “Good, I’ll help in any way I can, but I need to turn off lights and lock doors.”Denise left the room but stopped near the door to eavesdrop on Bernie and Arin to ensure Bernie was safe. She heard Bernie say with a sigh, “Arin, apparate me home, I guess. “She finally heard Arin speak. Her voice was smooth and had a sultry edge, but she said with a strength that surprised Denise. “I prefer to call it ‘poofing’, but that’s an apt description, Mistress. Though, may I ask, what is bothering you?”Denise heard Bernie respond, “I guess it’s just that Dame Miller isn’t a fan of chess when she’s the sponsor of our club. We owe her so much! I wish that-mmph!”Denise peeked in and saw that Bernie placed her hand over her own mouth, eyes wide as if she had just caught herself from setting off a bomb. Arin smirked playfully as she crossed her legs, “You almost did it again Mistress. You must watch your words; as soon as you say the magic words, I cannot stop myself until your desires are met within my powers.”Bernie removed her hand from her mouth, and she leaned back in her chair in thought, “Sorry, give me a moment to think.”While Bernie stroked her chin in thought, Denise found this situation curiouser and curiouser. Why did this Arin character call Bernie mistress? Why did the talk about… apparating? A couple of conclusions jumped to the teacher’s head, but they were all easily dismissed. There had to be a logical explanation for this.Bernie sighed, “I wish Denise could understand chess better, is that something you can do Arin?” Arin smiled slyly as her eyes lit up. Denise, as she still peered in, she saw that Arin had her finger up and it began to glow, an orangish red ball forming at her fingertip. “Lay out your chess board.”“Why…” Bernie asked as she followed the instructions apprehensively. Arin winked at her, then peered over her shoulder to wink at Denise who peeked through the door.Denise drew back, and then tried to hide from the strange sight, but there was a orange glow from under the door, and the sphere that Arin made slid under it! The ball went straight to her like a homing missile and once it struck Denise it blinded the teacher who was consumed by an orange glow.Suddenly, the glow disappeared. Dense looked around, and saw she stood on a heavy silver platform on black and white tile. She jumped when she saw another figure in her peripheral vision, though it was not very high as it was like her heels were stuck to the platform. They were chess pieces as big as a person, and they looked familiar. Wait... They weren't big, she was as small as a chess piece! Denise tried to call out, but it was as if she’d lost her voice. It was caught in her throat. She tried to pick up her feet, but they were cemented to the platform beneath her. A chill rose up her spine, and her legs and clothes were engulfed with a solid block of white to match the other white pieces! She waved her arms for help as the magic rose around her, coating over her legs and engulfed her dress. Everything underneath became solid mineral, and she felt as if her body fell asleep, though her mind as very much awake as the magic sculpted her form from the waist down into a beautiful and regal dress fit for a queen. As it rose the process continued and by the time it reached her arms, they were forced into a new pose. Her right hand gripped a queenly staff of authority, and her left hand was raised as if she waved to her subjects. Finally, Denise’s face, while it still resembled the teacher she was, froze with a powerful, confident smirk. She owned the board and was the greatest asset to her husband and King! Finally, a royal crown and braided hair topped the newly chiseled chess piece that while it resembled the former teacher, matched the rest of the board. While Chess Piece Queen Denise could not move or talk on her own, she could hear and think. She heard booming voice through her stone ears which muffled the sound as if she heard it through a wall as two giants talked over her. She heard Bernie chastise the giggling genie, “Arin! What’d you do!!!”Arin shrugged, “What? What better way to learn chess than as a piece? Even better, the best piece. What did you say? All ways are her ways.” Bernie scoffed and crossed her arms in disappointment, “Yeah, but still! She's my teacher. We can’t leave her this way!”Arin placed her hand on Bernie’s shoulder to calm her down, “Because I like you, I'll give you a gift as a freebie.” The orange glow that made Denise a chess piece flashed again, but because she was stuck looking forward she was unable to look and she what had changed. She was still a block of stone carved into a chess piece. She heard Bernie freak out, but the President could still talk. “What'd you do Arin!?”Arin replied, “I made you the ultimate chess teacher, so when you feel as if she’s learned her lessons, you have the power to change Denise back by touching her and saying ‘Restore, Denise.’ Even better, if you want to teach chess to others, you can turn them into a piece by saying it aloud like 'Pawn' and their name as you touch them, and they'd become like Denise, a realistic chess piece to match your board.”Bernie hesitated, then said, “She did turn out beautiful… though I should change her back though.”Arin adopted a proud smirk, then she sits, “How about we play a game first? So, that way, our good teacher can learn how to play?”At the prospect of playing a game, Bernie’s tone brightened some, and she set up the board including Queen Denise. She picked up the teacher-turned-chess piece with ease and tried to be gentle as she set the Queen beside the King for the match, "I'll play white. Now, pay attention Queen Denise, I'm going to show you how to play some chess and get back at Arin." Queen Denise, austere as always, found herself a captive audience, and the genie towered over her like a mountain, clearly amused by this outcome. Denise found herself worried about if Bernie would change her back. However, Duchess Bernie moved her first pawn to begin the game, Queen Denise found that she anticipated the next move. She wanted her player… Duchess… No… Bernie, to put her into the fray for her Kingdom! For Queen Denise, the board was hers. All ways were her ways.

I have many series I have worked on, and one that I have found myself torn about has been Arin, my Genie OC. I'm not a great writer, but when I was younger and less experienced I underwent a series on this beautiful genie here. However, I made many mistakes, and I have since scrapped the original chapters for now. This i a bit of a retcon or soft reboot of the series.

I've considered retiring the character, but has been encouraging me through words and art to keep the red head ifrit alive. Not to mention he has provided me many gifts over the years on my birthday.

Therefore, I dedicate this story to for his birthday gift from me. Thank you and I hope you enjoy!
