And now for my series of "humiliate myself" pictures, I present to you a remake of a pretty old drawing that I should have redrawn quite a while ago already.You see, I'm a bit fan of Urasawa's work, specially Monster since it was the series that got me hooked to him
So I did a fanart almost 5 years ago, while I was reading the manga. But alas, seeing it today, it looked pretty crappy...
So I needed to try to remake it! I drew this between spare times in university and my comic jobs... There are a bunch of other old pics that I want to re-do while I have some time, but it's hard to find the said time, people!!
PS: Yes, I know that Tenma hardly ever fires a gun in the show, but it looked way more natural to color the smoke than the gun (which is also gray in color, and if I painted it in another color it would look like some plastic toy gun, so yeah...). But, remember! Once or twice, he still DOES shoot! So the gun smoke is still valid! LOL
Oh!! This pic, like the old one, is still dedicated to my friend , because she was originally the one who asked me to do a Monster fanart (we were both into the series
)I won't show you the old drawing, because it's really awful and I don't want you to see it!

Comparing this with the other version I just found recently, you have improved a whole lot.
I can see a progression from your still leaning on cartoony-style to a more realistic, defined style. The shading you presented here is particularly more striking and has more contrast now, but the almost absolute monochromatic scheme of the older version may have contributed to the weak shading.
In this version, they look closer to the actual style used in the manga and anime series too, and I've also noticed a stronger contrast (color-wise.)
Another thing I've noticed is that you managed to show stronger emotion here, and the lighting tricks help give that mood too. The version from five years back had the five characters depicted as very calm, despite subtle facial expressions. Here, you can see the tension, slyness, and all.
I'll say, five years from the previous version and you have improved drastically. Either that or it's a total switch of style altogether.

Yes, I must say though that the poor shading was really due to my inhability and insecirity and not due to a general monochrome that went further than in the new pic
Also, yes, in the old one I wanted a calm mood, but now I feel that this series is more about drama and tension, so this feels better to me

I see, it's understandable though, seeing that it's old work.
It was nice to see some Monster fanart which doesn't have things too dramatic, although again, I really love how you captured the atmosphere in this one.

que fort nen!!!! XD no veas cómo se nota lo que has ido mejorando estos años con este tipo de prácticas xD No solo la técnica y la anatomía la has mejorado sino también tu imaginación para crear las escenas ^^. En la nueva versión has aprovechado mucho mejor los espacios y has mejorado muchísimo las expresiones de las caras!!

redrawing older drawings is always fun! especially after comparing it to the older version!
and you've improved a lot! and yes, the style is better, and the poses and compositions are better. but what really caught my eye first were the lines! the lines look absolutely outstanding! and the way you colour with watercolours has become a lot more dramatic!
all in all, keep up the awesome work! : D

both actually! but the inked lines are definitely what I see first (the drawing style is something that gets better even because all the other factors got better! like lines, colours, composition, proportions...)
the lines are much more secure and firm, and I love how you make them of different thickness. that is a really nice touch and makes it less monotonous. basically the lineart stands proudly by itself : D
