When I initially started this picture a few years ago (before my computer broke and I lost the file...) it had come from a place of desperation and frustration. There began another struggle against pornography and I was sick of my screw ups, tired of my promises to myself and God that I'd get better, sick of my trained mind wandering off into places that it shouldn't go and tired of abusing Jesus' grace. In my anger I'd pray that God would snatch my sight from me because I'd rather be stricken blind than caught up again by this sick habit of defiling my renewed thoughts, my body, and my spirit. I felt like a hypocrite. The issues traced back to my heart and I knew I needed restoration. It was quite a process...

But thank God for grace... Even when I fall He doesn't turn away.
("For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 8:38-39)

Years later as I'm finishing this piece... I feel much more enthusiastic and optimistic. I'm still being made new and I pray that I never go back. As I strive to live humbly and righteously I look forward to the day when all of this sin will be dealt away with, I'll never misuse my eyes again and I'll be able to gaze at the true beauty of God forever!

This is probably my most symbolic piece to date and I love when people can think about and discuss what everything means. But I urge you to listen to the song while looking at the picture for the full effect.
