Description This was also taken on the Routeburn Track. I had spotted this area from the track on the way up and wanted to explore it on the way down. It is (I think) Sugarloaf Stream, which is quite a lot bigger than just this part, but this was my favourite shot from my limited time there.

This is what my dreams are made of. I personally like this lighting, as it adds mood and mystery to the location. Sort of like stumbling upon an elvish entertainment area! Is this track located around Queenstown or Dunedin?
BTW keep up the amazing work!

Thank you, I was really happy with this shot and felt a little shot down... good to get some positive feedback on it!
It is from Queenstown. You go up the lake, through Glenorchy and up the Routeburn Valley... just google Routeburn and there is tons of info on it!

Very nice scene. The shutter speed works well on the water. Contrast and shadows are a bit too heavy for my taste - the whole image feels a little bold. Composition-wise the big trunk in the center isn't the best aesthetically and moves this shot a little more in the "documentary" dierection. I might have tried a focus on the waterfall itself without the trunk for an alternative.

Ok, I quite liked the log, it just added to the raw and rugged feel of the place in my opinion. There wasnt too much I could have done with the placement of it while teetering on quite a small rock with more falls behind me but I do see your point about its positioning.
I think I will lighten this a little more for the shadows, but in terms of boldness and contrast, that is my taste and style I guess.
Thanks for the comments!

What do you mean about the lighting?

sadunK In reply to mark-flammable [2010-01-10 07:26:35 +0000 UTC]

It’s like this,
If u can give the more brightness affect for the green, that’s may be a looks like fresh light. And also yellow leaves as well
Don’t worried about that, this is only my personal idea

Ok... still kinda confused! There were no yellow leaves because it was taken in summer... I do see what you mean about the green being a little dull, I love saturation so maybe Ill go in and locally adjust that.
Thanks for the comments!

Hey I really like this - such wonderful little creek & waterfall. I only think that it's a little bit to dark and could be a little bit sharper.

mmm, any lighter and Id have some blown out water, I locally processed the shadows to be a little lighter but could only do so much! Sharpness seems fine in the original, perhaps I need to re process.
Cheers

Yes, perhaps. Just try the levels to increase the lights a little bit and locate the changes via masks to all except the waterfall.
