Description
The legendary F-4 Phantom II began as a proposal for the US Navy. Developed as an all weather fleet defense interceptor, they type was soon adapted to fighter and attack bomber roles due to it's incredible performance capabilities. It wasn't long before it was adopted by the US Marines and the Air Force for the air superiority role. A stellar performer, the F-4 Phantom II at one time held 16 world records for speed and climb. These were only eventually bested by it's F-15 Eagle replacement. Entering service in 1960, the F-4 Phantom II was used extensively in the Vietnam Conflict by all branches of the US Military. Our print depicts the F-4J model in the markings of the VF-84 "jolly Rogers" as they appeared during their cruise aboard the USS Independence in April 1968 - January 1969.Related content

Sweet! My favorite jet. Ah those old AIM-7s. Had to fire them off in ripple and hope that at least one would track. SCARY!

Thanks Lyle. They sure had lots of problems in the early days with those missiles. To think the Phantom didn't even have a gun either.

Scary huh! I loaded AIM-7s on the F-4 but that was well after they finally figured them out. I think the better versions were the AIM-7Fs. Geez...that was awhile ago. LOL

My Grandfather flew F4s on Reconnaissance missions, and for air protection of the Carrier he took off from during Vietnam...
