Well, consider this. The series could end in an even more tragic way. This is Gravity Falls, you know. Death and killing is mentioned very often for a kids' show, so who's to say that at least one of the characters is not going to die? In an early episode, Soos himself wondered if he was going to die because he's a "side character." And, in "Into the Bunker," the shape shifter, in his last moments, decides to mess with Dipper by saying that he could meet a terrible fate.
