Description
With today being the eve of the 11th anniversary of Jerry Nelson's death, I have chosen to present a meme which involves my five personal favorite sketches from Sesame Street featuring his signature Muppet (and the only one the media bothered to bring up in Nelson's obituaries).
I will specifically choose sketches that I personally remember from Sesame Street.
5. Elevator job (Premiere: Episode 1970, November 23, 1984)
The Count gets a job as an elevator operator. On the first day, Kermit requests to be taken to the seventh floor. Of course, Count being Count, he pretty much ignores the aforementioned frog's request.
4. Picnic (Premiere: Episode 2132, January 7, 1986)
The Count has set up a picnic for himself, only for ants to arrive. They proceed to steal his food, but obviously he does not mind.
3. Sleepover with Ernie and Bert (Premiere: Episode 941, December 20, 1976)
The Count stays overnight at Ernie and Bert's apartment. He sleeps in Bert's bed whereas Bert sleeps on the couch. Ernie suggests to him that he count sheep, which backfires on Ernie (and bear in mind, this is the Count we are talking about). I realize that a lot of people thought the sight of a sleepless Ernie was scary to them, but I did not mind it, even when I was a kid.
2. "Squeal of Fortune" (Premiere: Episode 2331, April 13, 1987)
The Count and Prairie Dawn are contestants on Squeal of Fortune; the point of said game show being to determine the number of times the pig (performed by Richard Hunt) in the wheel will rotate. The Count wins, but he declines the prizes offered to him, instead opting for the pig.
1. Rocket countdown (Premiere: Episode 1306, May 14, 1979)
The Count and his assistant Dr. Reinbrein (performed by Frank Oz; from a vocal standpoint, imagine Bert after a coffee binge) have built a rocket, ready for a launch. Of course, it fails to do so, which was the Count's intention in the first place, for him to do the countdown over and over.
