I wanted to paint a pretty dress. Why? I don't know. It's something, an undercurrent in art, a new reclamation of feminity not as a desirable ideal or a hated shackle but just because I like pretty dresses. How illogically female of me? Why do I like pink and baby pugs and gluing sparkly things onto any available surface? Why are chunky, fleshy legs tangled in a billowing skirt, falling from Wonderland something I committed to canvas? Why didn't you do it first is the real question. Is it subversive to fix bikes and chop wood in skirt? Or have we come to a point where that's pretty normal?....
