Description

[CHARACTER NAME]

Hadi

Species

Lion

[Basic Info]

Male, short for his age due to slowed development, he will likely only reach a full height of 3 feet when he reaches adulthood. He is not a warrior by any means. Instead he makes the most of his small size with more agility and speed. His specialty is in rocky or desert terrain. Hadi is still uncertain of his romantic attraction, but he has had little interest in such matters so far.

[Pre Group History]

[CW: domestic abuse]

Hadi was the first-born of his litter, solidifying him as heir to the royal line of the Farah Pride, a now defunct pride that was little more than a ragtag group of rogue lions trying to form a pride to survive a drought that has hit their region hard.  Almost from birth, his parents Hamza and Mahara separated him from his cubmates and set him apart to be the next leader of the Pride. It was a troubled cubhood for all three youngsters of the Pride between inexperienced parents and harsh environmental conditions.

Things came to a head when the youngest cub, Mala, passed away during the night, seemingly from natural causes. Hadi was devastated. They had grown very close as siblings. Moreso after it became evident he was the only one who seemed to mourn his sister. In a desperate attempt to regain the trust of his remaining brother, Hadi confronted his parents openly about their mistreatment and stood up for his brother. Hamza was outraged at the lack of respect, and the confrontation quickly became physical.

The Pride was a small one, barely able to stay together, and it was quickly unraveling following the death of the cub. Hamza was not a good leader. He was selfish and strong-willed. There was much bickering and fighting among the lions. Mahara had only agreed to the mating to try to bring the pride together and the promise of an easier life; she had no interest in ruling herself. The authority of the mating couple came under question even more frequently after the cub's death, and fights for dominance quickly tore the Pride apart, leaving the small family to care for themselves.

Hadi took a lot of the blame for the pride falling apart, Hamza convinced himself that the cub’s action of defiance against his father caused the split, not his poor leadership. The day the cub had been on this planet for a full rotation, the father cast him out on his own.

It took Hadi some time to adjust to life on his own, but he found innovative ways to adjust. Strangers entered and left his life, sharing their food, sharing skills he could use to fend for himself. He learned to live in less lion-heavy areas, sticking to the dry savannahs and arid deserts, developing survival skills in such inhospitable environments for a cub. Hadi took something from every temporary caretaker, as if it were the desert itself that raised him.

Hadi’s development physically has been greatly affected by the lack of proper nutrients of the desert, slowing his growth greatly. He also has had only inconsistent mane growth, which he had begun to hold as a symbol of rebellion against becoming the lion his father wanted him to be. This continued to be a strong driving-force as he matured.

Travelling alone as an adolescent proved to be quite a trial, but Hadi managed to survive his exile from kindness given by strangers. He learned how to trust others again, finding friends and adopted family in the most unexpected places. His future was far from as he continued his journey and never settled down in the same place for too long. Time would see him make his way to the Matumaini desert as a solitary lion, sticking mainly to the desert and rivers. There he found himself more and more longing for companionship, purpose, and maybe even a Pride to call home.

[Personality]

Positive

  • Empathetic - Hadi hates seeing others in pain or need. He will put others needs before his own almost to his own detriment and refuses to look the other way if someone needs help.

  • Observant - Hadi has a tendency to be mindful of his surroundings at all times and will often be the first to notice potential dangers. He has experience scouting and navigating dangerous terrain.

  • Loyal - While Hadi’s trust is difficult to establish, once someone has it, he will not betray that person. He forms very strong bonds that last a life-time.

Negative

  • Stubborn - Hadi had a tendency to be stuck in a task or problem and have difficulty breaking away from it. He likes to take things one step at a time and gets grumpy if interrupted.

  • Troubles with authority - For Hadi, trust must be earned. He has trouble accepting authority based solely on title or status, shaped by his past experiences with undeserved leadership.

  • Unconventional - Hadi has a tendency to shun what is expected of him and due to his travels has very unconventional interests for a lion. This has led to some struggles with making connections with those of his own kind.

[Trivia]

Hadi’s favorite food is fish, though due to most location’s water-proximity hunting laws, it has become a rare treat.

Hadi has a talent for recognizing various species of herbs and other edible plants, along with a surprisingly deep knowledge of plants (at least for a lion).

One of Hadi’s favorite pastimes is to draw lines in the sand with his claw. He might struggle to match even basic shapes with his crude drawing, but he does enjoy making patterns and designs.
