As long as he could remember, he had drowned countless sailors with no remorse, for they were his prey.
But somehow, this one was different.
Yet another Stucky mermaid!AU in a sea of mermaid!AUs. Steve and Bucky were both sailors on the same ship until Bucky drowned while saving Steve, before they could come to terms with their feelings for each other. In this world, mermaids are born when someone drowns with a broken heart, and Bucky was no exception. They become monstrous creatures, with a taste of human flesh, and so are feared and hated by sailors and other seamen alike. They lure ships to stormy rocky waters with their alluring songs, and when the ship wrecks they feed on the drowning crew. It just so happens that Steve is the captain of this particular unlucky ship. Bucky doesn't remember his past life as a human, but somehow he just can't bring himself to drown this familiar looking blond sailor, so he rescues him instead.
