Description
A single, sleek craft breaks with the Guardian Fleet’s formation, climbing out of the red giant gravity well to meet the source of the strange disturbance. Its captain is a veteran warrior of the first resistance, one who declined any rise to higher positions in favor of a life in space. All her life she sought to escape the demons from the past, but the old evil finally caught up with her. Many wonders she had seen out on the rim, but nothing quite as extraordinary as this signature. Camera- and sensor feeds of her vessel are transmitted to the fleet, granting Admiral Shu’Dan a full view of the blackness up ahead. To the naked eye of the Narn, there is nothing to be seen. But where they tinged the magnetosphere in false colors, there appear long, cured spikes on the edge of the visible field.
The scouting craft pushes closer, processing the signal emitted from this strange, impossible form. Curiously, they were just on the edge of their sensor’s range, arranged in just the right way to be barely visible, yet unmistakably foreign.
The captain’s red eyes went wide as the realization struck her. These data were perfect, too perfect to be a coincidence.
“It’s a trap!” she cries, sooner than anyone else could have realized it.
Her transmissions are overpowered by a shriek, the piercing sound echoing through all ships of the fleet. Its sudden cry chills even the last free warriors of the regime to their bones, many bowing their heads and covering their ears in irrational fear. Some of them remember old stories, too old to know from where they came. Stories told to pouchlings before they went to sleep, invoking warnings of an older time, knowledge half-forgotten. Somehow, they recognize in this primordial shriek the monster of which such old stories. A monster more ancient and terrible than the Centauri or anything the known galaxy had brought upon Narn. A monster against which even the loss of the homeworld pales.
Out of the sky falls a piece of perfect darkness. It doesn’t even fire upon the scout ship, simply moves through the vessel along its path. The small vessel burns and dies before the helmsman can even try to avoid the danger.
Its captain never sees the coming of her death. In those last moments, she only knows the intangible horror of the shadow’s shrieking.

An eldritch horror descends from the dark, a force unperturbed by a direct collision with another vessel and moving to take on the entire fleet. The unnameable thing is out to destroy all that which remains of the Narn Fleet. Immediate action must be taken.
1. Distract the black horror
The Guardian Fleet still has time to get away, but to leave the vessels still caught in the giant’s atmosphere behind is out of the question. However, if the guardian fleet could outrun the horror for long enough, it might grant the ships in the giant time to come free of the atmosphere and get to safety.
2. Launch a counter attack
Instead of running away, the Guardian Fleet could try and face the enemy with all they’ve got. It should at least slow the enemy down enough to allow the salvage fleet to join up with them and either defeat the enemy or retreat.
3. Retreat into the Gas Giant
If both running away and staying to fight appear too risky at the moment, the guardian fleet’s only option would be to dive down into the gas giant’s atmosphere to join up with the salvage fleet as soon as possible and shake the enemy off there.
