Description Afzal, a carpenter from a village in Gujranwala - Pakistan, has lived and worked in Dubai for over 38 years. Knows every single bus route in Pakistan that leads to his village. He has endured much throughout his life, at home as well as abroad, and yet he cannot look straight into the camera.
Here he's recalling one of the routes from Rawalpindi which he took back in 1986....

Another photo of him, taken a minute later: Afzal's Foto
Al Satwa - Dubai, U.A.E.

Dedicated to the legendary photographer, JoΓ«l Sueur - *SUDOR

This portrait of Afzal, the carpenter, is so strong and porwerful that details goes from the materials he is surround to the "blood" on his hand...

MARX77 In reply to NunoCanha [2012-01-12 01:38:35 +0000 UTC]

Haha! There's definitely "blood" on his hand.
He stores it inside that bottle on the left.

I like the fact that he doesn't look at the camera, it's a sigh of modesty and shyness, my dad does that too.
I really like this portait! There is something sincere about it. Good job!

Yes, indeed. Such humility is rare among people these days.
Thank you so much for the lovely comment, Irini.

Thanks, my friend!
I was more interested in his expression, than I was with the environment.
So glad you noticed.

Excellent piece, Mr. K!
Great expression and story. The composition is very interesting - the man framed by his work and somehow it seems you're inside the wall, just like a candid camera. I loved it.

Oh, I love so warm and soft lighting ... The right side lighting, and there is no loss of detail in the remainder, with a very smooth transition, besides reflecting perfectly the workplace. Β‘Magnifica Khuram...!

Muchas gracias mi amigo!
This was taken in very poor lighting conditions. The sun was already setting behind the buildings causing dark shadows to fall right where I was standing, and inside the shop as well.
Used a very mild vignette effect to enhance the shadows a bit, and bring more attention towards his face.
