The first Pokémon card that I remember having was Rhydon (Jungle 45). I can't remember when exactly I got it, but the Jungle expansion set did come out in June 1999, so it checks out.

The other thing I vividly remember around this time was asking my mom if I could LITERALLY DRAW on my Pokemon cards. I think she said something along the lines of "Sure, I guess; they are your cards." I mean, as a 3 to 4 year old who didn't know a thing about card games, what else were you supposed to imply from cards like "Professor Oak", where the text literally says "Discard your entire hand, then DRAW 7 CARDS"?
