As she looked around she practiced the breathing exercises Dr. Leoprid. Elevated heart rates, she was told, made the tiny machines more volatile.

Down, beneath her legs, lay the vial. In her moving about and tipping over things it must have fallen to the floor.

Reach, Alice, the moderated voice inside her said. If she could get just a little on her fingers and lick it maybe it could be enough.

She hoped it was enough.
