Description
It's been about a year since I've watched both IT films, and since its Spooky month, I thought I'd draw my favorite character and the best arc in the whole wide world of worlds. If it was a good movie.
I didn't like It Chapter 2 at all, but I loved the exploration of it's characters in the source material. I'm among those who believe Eddie could have lived and it still would have served the story well. At least in the film. Both Richie and Eddie's arcs have pretty big holes in the film, which is a shape because they're essentially the bread and butter of the adaption. In the novel, I absolutely ADORED Eddie's child characterization. I found him to be very relatable. He's a quiet kid who comes to nearly feral life around his frends. He'll sit still and listen to momma, but will beat the shit out of a giant eyeball squid and call his friends chicken for not doing the same. He is both the manifestation of his mother's helicopter parent attitude and yet still very much the most emotional, loving feral dude in the group.
Richie loves him because they're essentially the same person through different means, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a deeper interpretation of this love on film. ...Even though it came to the detriment of Eddie's arc. Richie's a guy who has such a genuine love for his friends that you don't really see anymore. He makes fun of Bill's stutter at everytime he can, but allows waits patiently for him to finish speaking. Even offers to hold his hand while traversing his unbridled grief for Georgie. He's in awe of Bev and her confidence and beauty, but respects Ben and Bill enough not to pursue her.
Its just! They're good characters and they're only 11! SO yeah i just saw this scene as Eddie letting go and remembering his energy as a child, and finally living by dying for his friends. What a sweetie.
