Description The summertime forest is great for this, because the leaves mask most of the light, leaving only narrow pencil beams.  Which is what you need, because broad beams still refract, but their colors reoverlap and look white or pale.  Also it helps to find webs of a certain age, maybe two days.  then there is dust and pollen and spores stuck to the silk, making random refractions.  Too much older, and so much dust has gathered that the web is white or gray.  Brand new webs are good too, but they make perfect rainbows, not random.  They are like the underside of a CD.  It can be boring to see repeated perfect spectra.  If there is a rain, it clears all webs away, and the spiders rebuild the next day, and you can count 2 or 3 days ahead and hope for a bright sun forecast.  When I'm shooting, the sun is on the move.  The beam moves across the web like a slow-motion light saber, gone in a minute or two.  Meanwhile other beams are just coming into other webs.
