Description Walking through the darkened trees
feel the bones and dust beneath.
Soft as marble, warm as stone
drawing, drawing further on...

Clearing in the trees ahead
branches tearing in my flesh.
Far too painful to dismiss
with the softness of a razor's kiss.
Hesitation at the edge
scared to tumble o'er the ledge
want to stop but too far gone
drawing, drawing further on...

Strangers both in shrouded hoods
one is evil, the other good.
Both stretch out their hand to me
I must choose just one it seems.
Thinking, probing watching both
for any clue, for any hope.
But I feel as though all hope is gone
drawing, drawing further on...

Rash decisions made in haste
that stalks and kills its helpless prey.
Overthinking simple steps
leads to tear filled final breaths.
A voiceless whisper in my head
"Take the right or you'll be led
down a road of pain and tears
and bring to life your darkest fears".
Make a choice, and you alone
drawing, drawing further on...

The left's voice soft, and deep and low
inviting me to come and know
the carnal pleasures of it all
and bathe in bloody waterfalls.
No sound at all come from the twin
but a silent gaze at me and then
I turn my back on all I've known
and grasp the evil's hand of stone.
Down a path of dust I'm led
Never knowing what's ahead.
Faster, faster on we go
I plead to stop, I beg to slow.
In reply not a word
as if my guide had not heard
my desperate cry as pulled along
drawing, drawing further on...

Desperately for help I cry
the ravens mock as we rush by.
I didnt know it would be like this!
Dripping blood from the demon's kiss.
Battered, scarred and so afraid
In my own prison that I made.
Pound my hands against the wall
recanting details of my fall.
To have the chance just once again
to choose the right, to feel the wind
beneath my wings as on I soar
higher than I have before.
To know my dreams, to touch the stars
to leave this prison, bend the bars.
Faster in to the storm I'm drawn
drawing, drawing further on...

I look beneath me at the path
I chose so recklessly and ask
"Is it too late? Can I turn back?
To that one choice and leave this track
that life has taken as I turn
farther away, destined to burn.
I see so clear than one mistake
I made so long ago, and choose to break
the endless cycle of pain and strife
and there I choose the right in life.
A blazing sword! The demon wails.
The doors are wrenched free of my jail.
I turn and see the other choice
I try to speak, but have no voice.
Gently held by nail-scarred hands
the stranger takes me back again.
The narrow path, the other choice
where my dreams will have a clearer voice.
Forever silenced screams and moans
of past mistakes, I start for home.
drawing, drawing further on...
drawing, drawing further on...

oh, my goodness!! This is one awesome poem!! It personifies the ease with which we choose the big fat easy road, and the struggle we must endure to get back on the right one. This is purely beautiful.

Psalm 139:13

For you created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mothers womb.

Wow, that's great man! I found some significance in the following:

Gently held by nail-scarred hands
the stranger takes me back again.

The fact that you said stranger says so much all in itself. Such a beautiful stranger is he. And even more so when you get to know him. Whether this is your own story or a fictitious one, here's to hoping he's a stranger no longer, that goes for all. I like it.
