Description
The Mamba B was an urgent operational modification of Tiperyn’s Mamba A main battle tank produced and retrofitted during the Great Kesh War. After combat experience in wooded terrain and cities in southern Selengeria, the Tiperyn military ordered an upgrade to the Mamba’s all-aspect protection. This entailed the addition of spaced steel armor plates to the hull and turret cheeks to defeat new HEAT rounds fielded Akiteiwa and handheld anti-tank weapons with HEAT warheads. A more powerful engine to cope with the increased weight was also adopted.
This exemplar is the Detachment Commander’s tank of 1. Detachment, 2/4 Fleet Expeditionary Group, a marine tank battalion that took part in the initial amphibious invasion of Komishima in early 1959. Landing number “D-110” is hastily outlined, marking it as the 110th vehicle of “D Group”, the naval landing flotilla landing the 4th Expeditionary Force.
