Description
Hook is one of my favorite Disney villains! In my eyes he’s such a classy character. I’ve wanted to draw him as a Dapper character since the beginning, but as I worked on him I found it quite difficult. It’s taken over a year to get to a face and hair design I was happy with.
Hook’s original design is so exaggerated and characterized. His nose is comically gigantic with tiny eyes, a big ol’ smile finished with a ski slope of a chin. I wanted to keep his original design but have it read a tad more like an actual person.
As far as his sense of style, I knew immediately he needed a pea coat. He had to have a nautical feeling to him and you defiantly see it with his bowtie. I wanted him to keep his class but in a modern way. He needed to stand out from the other Dapper guys, so I added the mustard scarf.
I pictured him as a middle-aged gentleman that can usually be found on his yacht or sailboat, so I didn’t want him too formal. At that last minute I decided to finish his look with jeans instead of a pair of slacks.
Finally, his hook! I debated for a long time on how to approach his amputated hand. Should I keep him one-handed? Should I give him a more current prosthetic? Should he wear a glove? But I ran across this older version of a hook-like hand replacement and I knew immediately I found the answer!
