My absolute favorite of the Incredible Hulk's leading ladies (sorry Betty and Caeira), Jarella is a princess from the subatomic world of K'ai. This was a touching story conceived by Harlan Ellison and written by Roy Thomas about the Hulk finding acceotance and love in an alien world. The story read a lor like one of Edgar Rice Burroughs' planetary romances, with the twist that the Hulk, hated and feared on his homeworld, was welcomes as K'ai's greatest hero. It was the character of Jarella who made that word. Though not physically powerful, she had a strong personality whose dominant trait was an ability to see past surface prejudices to the true nature of another. She accepted Hulk instantly and quickly fell in love with him. When a spell to allow Hulk to speak her language had the side effect of giving him Bruce Banner's mind, she still loved him. It wasn';t Hulk's strength or Banner's intellect that she loved, but the core of gentleness and decency in both. Sadly, the Hulk can't be happy for long and their romance lasted only an issue, however she proved popular enough that she still pops up occasionally.
